The author delves in much detail into the politics and conflicts between interests in Spokane and interests in the western Columbia basin, far western Washington, and Eastern and Midwestern interest groups as well as the Government. As a relatively new resident in Washington State, I learned much about the background of Washingto Grand Coulee: Harnessing a Dream is an excellent history of the conception, planning, building, and evolution.

Bought this in advance of roadtrip to check out the Grand Coulee Dam. Expected usual description of all the engineering marvels, did not expect the fascinating background of the politics behind it. No idea how many years Pitzer spent researching this book but I am in awe of what he came up with.
