Joyce Meyer is definitely ‘blessed’. A charismatic Christian speaker and author, Meyer went through a great deal of turmoil in her early life but rose from them all to build one of the world’s largest Christian ministries in the world. Her books have helped millions of people find hope and restoration in Jesus Christ and her programme commits at redeeming the words of Jesus Christ by helping people inculcate them in their life.

Meyer and his wife had two daughters, Jillian Rollo Dawn who later married Albert Paul Prestwich, and Jacqueline Valerie Faye Meyer who married Reginald Nicholas Mander (their son Julian, their grandson Gareth, and their great grandson Jack, all later attended Millfield). Meyer was accompanied on his return to England from India in the mid 1930s by seven Indian boys, including six princes, having been entrusted with providing them an education. He set up Millfield School in Street in Somerset in 1935 and remained as its headmaster for the next 35 years

Hanging Sam: A Military Biography of General Samuel T.

Ingenious and controversial, impetuous but charming, Jack Meyer, affectionately known as 'Boss', was a man willing to take chances. This biography tells of his bravest gamble of all - the founding of Millfield School in Somerset.Born in 1905, Jack Meyer's own education suffered a double malaise: first, as a result of the First World War, and second, from an increasing apparent conflict between academic progress and his love and aptitude for cricket. After Cambridge he resolved that the two were essentially sides of the same coin, both winning his BA and bowling out the Australians. Thereafter he taught that achievement in one field could lead to confidence in another, and this became a cornerstone of his educational philosophy.Millfield came into existence almost by accident, and first catered principally for the sons of Maharajahs that Meyer had taught in India. As the school grew, his recipe of teaching small groups with individual attention proved staggeringly expensive, especially when its doors were opened to those without money, and so 'Boss' sought to support them by charmingly 'Robin Hooding' the better-off. It was a ploy that worked enviably well, as Millfield gradually grew from its Nissen huts and teaching in the backs of staff cars to the well-established school that it is today.Extraordinarily successful, and pioneering in the areas of remedial work and teaching for gifted children, few schools in the country could not be annihilated by Millfield's sportsmen and women, and this resulted in threats of boycott. Meyer's flair for publicity and insistence upon coeducation also worried the establishment. Another controversy led to the distancing of the school from Meyer on his retirement, but today Millfield thrives, acknowledging what he gave it, and attempting still to provide, in his words, 'the very best teaching, ducks, the love of friends and a game of this or that.'
