Berkson goes out and begins an obsessive quest to get his car back, mostly by hounding the police to keep looking for it and running down leads in a scroungy, rough area of Brooklyn. It was a car fanatic's nightmare. While Terry Berkson was visiting his newborn at the hospital, his '63 Corvette was stolen. He posted reward notices and cruised neighborhoods where he thought a stolen Corvette might pop up.Berkson was aided in his search by understanding officials and sympathetic car thieves, as well as repo men. He lurked in the corners of New York's most secluded hiding places, like "King Kong's Cave" in the Bronx, where stolen cars are set on fire. He learned how professional thieves plan and pull off grand theft auto, and he finally located his car. What happens when he does is both terrifying and exhilarating.

By way of full disclosure, I will begin by saying that I have known the author, Terry Berkson, and his family for well over twenty-five years. I have read various drafts of this book prior to the final published version, and as I've watched Terry bring to life the events experienced, I've been impressed with how honestly he describes his obsessive search for his Holy Grail, even to his own detriment. The reader, not knowing him personally, might easily dismiss him as crazy and/or irresponsible. After all, it's just a car, right? Well, yes and no. Yes, it's a car, but, then again, it is also a treasure chest of memories and experiences, something given to him by his beloved father, and something that was with him during some of the happiest moments of his life. The car was a touchstone of his youth, his early freedom, and all of life's possibilities, and, in a crushing instant, it came to represent their loss.

Corvette Odyssey is ultimately a book about a man who loses something very important to him and, in his desperation, risks losing even more important things in order to restore his equilibrium. It is a book about a man who attempts to force the world to yield to his will. And it is a book about a man who, finally, comes to know himself better through the effort.

I recommend Corvette Odyssey to one and all without hesitation.

Corvette Odyssey is a great read. As someone who grew up in Brooklyn and is a car guy it felt like I was listening to a friend telling me a great story that happened to him. All the places and locations Terry writes about are so well described by him. You really get the feeling of being there with him. Learning about the relationships he had with his father and his wife reminded me of family and friends I have known. The passion for his car cannot be denied. As a classic car owner that has worked on his own cars I can tell you he did exactly what most of us would do. Search and search for your pride and joy...

Terry Berkson's account of his search for his stolen 1963 Corvette is pure nectar for the souls of all car enthusiasts. Although it can drag at times, I loved it. A simultaneously sad and uplifting tale, it totally engrosses the reader and keeps you reading. You cannot help but sympathize with Terry and his plight. He is totally obsessed with getting that car back. If you do any web searches, his story is lore in the tight-knit Corvette community. Definitely worth a read if you are into cars or Corvettes specifically!

Corvette Odyssey shouldn't scare away readers who aren't obsessed with cars or Corvettes as was author T. Berkson. This is a story about a guy who loves something and can't just accept the fact that it's gone...and about how it affects his whole life and his relationships. In all, a good read, written in a down-to-earth style that makes you feel like it's a friend talking to you. He might have given us a little more detail about the people in his life, and what happened once he found the car, but the story is very interesting and draws you in.

A great read about one man's never giving up attitude to find his pride and joy. Well done.

If owning a 1963 Riverside Red convertible is a car enthusiast's dream, then having it stolen is the ultimate nightmare. Exactly that happened to Terry Berkson and with the tenacity of a pit bull and against the advice of his family and assorted experts, he started a fanatical search to get it back. His endeavors are chronicled in "Corvette Odyssey" which reads like a Mickey Spillane novel or Bruce Springsteen song but is made all that more enjoyable due to the fact that it is a true story. "Corvette Odyssey" is a testimony of a Corvette owner's dedication and a great read. Highly recommended as well as reasonably priced.

As for the company shipping the book, it arrived quickly and in excellent condition.
I was especially glad with the low cost of the book and shipping.
I also was pleased with being able to locate this book so easily especially since it came out quite a few years ago and look forward to reading it soon.
We found this book riveting and totally enjoyable. Wish it had been longer! The author was very gracious to work with as well.
