There isn't too much to say outside of the fact that this is a WONDERFUL guide for both new and experienced camp counselors. Well worth the cost and even as a 6th year counselor I keep it packed in my gear to reference when needed.

If you're a camp administrator and have the money I suggest buying this for every one of your returning and new counselors. Well worth the investment if you follow it up with some relevant training.

This is a good book for an adolescent who wants to understand how younger children develop, interact, learn, and process. The author dilutes the field of child development into an age-appropriate and camp-relevant guide. I'd recommend that camp staff purchase this book for counselors or utilize some of the activities in their training.

When I first found out that I was going to work at a summer camp I was so excited! Then I got really nervous because this would be the first time I worked with kids 24/7 for 2 months. I needed something to help me on what to do and I needed it fast! this book was great and really insightful. I know it is no longer published but if you can buy it used I highly recommend it. It helped me all summer long and I was able to have a great camp counselor experience because of it. It's also an easy read.

This book was very helpful to me. I will be working at a residential camp this summer, and found it very interesting. As part of my training as a counselor, we have to complete online courses before camp starts. Imagine my surprise when one of the courses was based off of this book! I had purchased this book a couple of weeks before my online training started so it felt good being ahead of the game. As my dad would say, "I already knew what time it was."

Camp is for the Camper is the perfect personal assistant for camp counselors who want to learn more about the youth who come to camps, who want to organize themselves to be an effective leader at summer camp and who want to solve typical camper issues. The book fits easily into a backpack and can go almost everywhere the counselor goes.

Often it hardest for a counselor to come ask a supervisor for help because they don't want to look as if they can't do their job. Of course, we train counselors to ask for help, but many still don't ask and since we know they want to do well, they will probably turn to this book for ideas and solutions.
The book reiterates many of the things we talk about in staff orientation, but we always wonder if counselors really took it to heart. For many counselors, reading a similiar message written by ACA professionals will give them a second chance to understand many critical issues to the success of our camp.
Along with the Camp is for the Camper Online course, this is a powerful training tool for every camp counselor in every camp across the country.
If you are a counselor, you will find it very useful. If you are a director, buy it for your staff!

This book offers suggestions for almost any situation that may arise with a camper. It not only offers help with dealing with one, but how to prevent it in the first place. Another useful feature is the inclusion of a "psychological roadmap" of each age group, their needs, and how to help them get the most of the camp experience. It's a great supplement to any Staff Manual. Order a copy for each of your staff!
