Few books maintain their appeal over time. And even fewer become 'classics'. The Cultural Dimension of Global Business is one of those. It remains a 'must read' for any practitioner or scholar of business. The book wears its solid scholarly grounding in classic cultural and business literature lightly, using current examples and thought-provoking questions to engage its readers, and the authors cover a wide scope of material without talking down to students. I will definitely be including this textbook in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates across a variety of courses at Oxford.

Gary P. Ferraro Cultural Anthropology and International Business How . Ferraro Cultural Anthropology and International Business How often do we hear people say "The whole argument is academic"? By this statement they mean that, despite the elegance of the logic, the whole line of reasoning makes lit- tle or no difference. In other words, the term academic has become synonymous with ir- relevant. This book rests on the fundamental assumption that to operate effectively in the in- ternational business arena one must master the cultural environment by means of pur- poseful preparation as well as sustained learning throughout one's overseas assignment.

Regarding the book: I read part of the first chapter. I got this: Americans are different at business than other nationalities. Sometimes that causes problems.

Throughout this book Ferraro takes on the idea of being a theoretical observer of different characteristics that the typical North Amercian has in comparison to the rest of the world.

Throughout this book Ferraro takes on the idea of being a theoretical observer of different characteristics that the typical North Amercian has in comparison to the rest of the world. At first I was freaking about this book because the online name say "The Cultural Dimension of Global Business (6th edition) but really it's The Cultural Dimension of "INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS" it's good at Fort Lewis College. Wonderful insight of learning to culturally preparing yourself for company business trips. Also understanding the concept of "the world not revolving around your culture but other's as well." The Cultural Dimension of Global Business (6th Edition)

The book itself is in an alright condition. There is a minimal amount of writing in the margins. I was mostly unsatisfied with how long it took the book to get here. I ordered a textbook from a different site and it showed up within 3 days. This book took almost a month to get to my apartment.
So maybe if you are doing a high-school report, this book might be useful - but only if your teacher does not allow Wikipedia as a source. Because I am sure Wikipedia would be much more accurate and informlive than Ferraro's The Cultural Dimension of International Business.

If this book was an attempt at covering the basics and not actually a source of literal understanding on cultures, well it still sucks. Ferraro does not touch on anything specific. He overly generalized every culture, but warns the reader to be careful of over-generalizing cultures. He picks a culture, uses it to make a point but never explains it, for example: Don't do A, B doesn't like it when you do A. See how C did A, now B and C don't get along. And that's it. In fact, when explaining the offense, he uses maybe 5 words. It's not even clear what the offense is, let alone why one shouldn't do it. I'm not even exaggerating.

Ferraro doesn't give readers any clear definitions in the book. It's frustrating really, you read on, wait for something meaningful to come up, and he just chops it off. I really don't know how he filled over 200 pages. This book will not produce any type of valuable references. All examples are already common in the study of culture and business. If they are in this book, they are then out-of-place. I often wondered why he would put some things where he did. I read the whole book (for class) and I seriously think I got dumber from reading it. Do not read this book thinking you're going to improve your practical understanding in other cultures, there are better books out there.
