The Lost Princess book. Only George MacDonald could write a fairytale this moralistic without losing the sense of the mythic. I think the secret is that the stakes are never just moral.

Good story about two girls whose paths intertwine, they are some who can learn from their mistakes and there are others who don't. A good tale of his. I especially like that helping others is really about helping them to learn how to help themselves.

If you are raising children read this book multiple times. It will also reveal where you are at in the sanctification process and what The Lord is trying to do to you. There IS an instruction manual for care of children. It is called The Book of Proverbs.

This is one of the most valuable books I've ever read myself and to the children within my sphere of influence. MacDonald, through this charming and deep story, enables the reader (at any age) to realize their own sin nature without ever identifying it as such. He helps us see our profound need for transformation and how that comes about through our surrender and obedient response to Truth. While written by a Christian and grounded in Christian theology (sin-love-redemption-transformation), all readers would benefit practically and be touched deeply by this story without necessarily knowing it is essentially the Good News of Christ.

George MacDonald's The Lost Princess is one of the very best gifts to give to the children of one's friends. The copy that I ordered through one of Amazon's affiliate suppliers was accurately described as in good condition. In this instance the copy was actually in better condition than I had expected. With beautiful illustrations by Bernhard Oberdieck, my choice proved to be an excellent one.

Thanks for Amazon's selective process in ordering used books in particular.

Felt a bit deceived in receiving this book - as it is *not* the original story by George Macdonald, but a retelling. Still very sweet, but not what I had expected to come in the mail! Unfortunately because of the error in the listing, some of the reviews here are for other titles by the same name with the original author or with a different illustrator, but not the actual book listed here, which is "retold and illustrated by Karen Mezek." We'll be keeping it and enjoying it, but I'm glad I bought it used!

George MacDonald is one of the most inspired authors I have ever read. His works are pictures of the soul painted with words a child can read and an adult can live by. The Lost Princess captures our story of the struggle between our Selves and our Best, and the battle with Illusion and selfishness we must fight to get there.
