When I'm Feeling Sad Hardcover – December 28, 2005. Sad' is a weak description for the loss and grief experienced from a death. Another example is the bunny parents arguing. Sometimes children can feel at fault for disagreement between the parents. Again, I just feel the example raises more complicated emotions than just being sad.

We had "When I'm Feeling Angry," and liked it. However, the 'Sad' book gives examples that are too strong if a child has not yet experienced such events

When I'm Feeling Sad book. Just like me when I was small. The book, When I'm Feeling Sad by Trace Moroney is about a little bunny which was sad. This book taught children that it's ok to feel sad and what to do when sadness evolves. The illustration to the book is cleverly done to show the sadness. Gray colour, windy day with Last Sunday visiting my nieces and nephew, my niece El Darisa Zuleykha gave me a book for me to read it loud. Darisa is barely 2 years old but she loves books and she loves to listen to story telling.

I bought this for my toddler and preschooler. We had "When I'm Feeling Angry," and liked it. However, the 'Sad' book gives examples that are too strong if a child has not yet experienced such events.

I had been expecting examples for sad more along the lines of a friend moving away, or disappointment of not getting something you want.

Cute idea for a book but I feel like another reviewer said it is a bit much for 3 year olds. Especially the part about someone dying and being in the cemetery. My 3 year old liked the pictures oddly enough but I just didn't read that part aloud to him.

I use this with my social skills groups. It's simple and easy for the kids to understand.

My little guy is 20 months old. We have 4 of these books..Happy, Sad, Scared, Angry. He loves them and asks for them. I read them to him with alot of drama, so he understands. I describe what the main character is doing and point out everything in the page. There are a few illustrations that he looks for specifically and tells ME what is going on. (Eg. "Mama saying No No No"; He points to the bunny and says "He crying.") Tonight he was upset and whining about all sorts of things (very tired), so we went into his room, shut the door and I attempted to look at a book with him. He actually sought out one on these books. When he found it, he kept repeating something and making a weird noise. I finally found the page he was referring to and could not believe it! There's a page in the story where the main character takes deep breaths to calm down. THIS is what he was doing and saying. "Deep breath" and mimicking what that is!
I'm online tonight looking to see if this author has more books. My little guy has always been very emotional. Looks people in the eyes alot and wants to know where everyone is. At 12 months, my aunt bumped her head when reaching for something under the kitchen table. He patted her head and gave her a hug. He's always been very in-tune with others, which is why I bought these books. They are great!

Just wanted to take a moment to praise this darling book. I read it with my children this morning and found it lovely, appropriate, understated, and very compelling. As I started to tear up at a particular page, the very next page referred to how I was feeling and what I might do to feel better. Thank you Trace.
