It's a great book. I loved it because our 5th grade class was going to do reports on colonial trades, and you have one guess that I was assinged the doctor. Well, I couldn't find enough infromation until I found this book. it's really really really really ...good (apologies for the reallys). I learned a lot from it. Maybe if you read it, you'll learn a lot too.

this book makes references throughout to "settler life", while the photographs represent a much longer time span. It is also extremely biased towards the modern American perspective on healthcare. Mention of homeopathy and herbs are at least mentioned however with minimal respect for those forms of healing. Of course no mention whatsoever of chiropractic which was invented in the 1800s. The photographs are great but typically captions under the photographs do not reflect accurate dates.
