Norma Fox Mazer takes the concept of relationships much further than that, however. After the Rain will stay behind in one's thoughts long after finishing the book

Norma Fox Mazer takes the concept of relationships much further than that, however. We see Rachel experiencing dynamic, living, breathing relationships with almost everyone who enters into the narrative's course, setting forth while slowly realizing what each of these personal connections mean to her as she grows into a wise, thoughtful teenager. After the Rain will stay behind in one's thoughts long after finishing the book. You will remember the characters and think on them, wanting to know them personally, to see what it would mean to you to interact with Lewis and Rachel and Helena and Jeremy and more. In my mind, this fine novel is a true and rich success, and I liked it very much.

After The Rain was written by Norma Fox Mazer. Izzy, Manny, her "Daddy", Shirley, her "Ma" Helena, her best friend, and Lewis are a few of the characters with whom the main character, Rachel, has relations. The entire book takes place in a rural countryside on the eastern coast of the United States. Rachel's grandfather, Izzy, was dying. He had contracted a terminal disease called mesothelioma. This disease usually attacks the lining of the lung and does not have a cure. Unfortunately, Izzy has the disease both on the lining of and in his lungs. Rachel, after grasping the fact that her grandfather was dying, spent more time with him before his death. She walked with Izzy almost everyday and took care of him as best she could. As Rachel got to know him, she grew to love him immeasurably. When Izzy finally became so weak he has to go to the hospital, Rachel skips school for many weeks to be with him.
I would recommend this book to another student. In fact I think that I would recommend this touching novel to anyone that could read! Norma Fox Mazer has adroitly woven the problems of a young teenage, about my age, into this novel. She created a story that seems so real, but is totally fiction. The events after Izzy died were described so vividly that tears came to my eyes, even though the vocabulary words used to illustrate the scene were only at a fifth to sixth grader's level. Because the story touched me so, I rated After The Rain five stars.

The book I read was After The Rain by Norma Fox Mazer, I really liked this book. It was about a regular fifteen-year-old girl going through high school the same as everyone else. She had the same high school drama: friends, boys, peer pressure, and homework. Then one day her grandfather, that she hardly knew, became ill. This would change her whole life. Rachel Cooper is in high school and loves to write. Her grandfather's name is Izzy, and he is stubborn and strong. It takes place in present day America. The setting or where they live is in the Eastern United States. I thought it was a very meaningful book. Also I think the author's lesson is treasure things while you have them because they might be gone soon. I think that is a good lesson to learn, and that we can all relate to this story. You should read this book because it is meaningful with Rachel and Izzy growing closer. That is why I liked this book a lot, but don't take my word for it. Read it yourself and decide if you like it or not.

The story starts with rachel a 15 year old girl. She enjoys writing and learning about literature. Her mother and father are described as a moose and a baby blue whale. She also has two older brothers that live and work away from home. Now rachel lives the normal hectic life of a teenager, with low self-esteem and feels unimportant to the world. Then her family is bestowed with the horrifying fact that her grandfather is diagnosed with a cancer diease.Although her grandfather is not the easiest man to love she becomes his reluctant companion. The after school visits to the hospital begin as a chore but soon her grandfather becomes the most important thing in her life.Even more important than her friendship with Helena and her new relationship with Lewis Olswager.Even after all the love and care rachel provides her grandfather passes away.but the memory of him will always live on in her heart forever! This was a hearwarming tell that tought me to treat me what I have right now important because I might not have it later!

I liked this book because it was about family and I love it when my whole family gets together!

In this book a girl named Rachel misses her family because they don't live with or near her. The only person that she sees is her grandfather. They aren't that close. Rachel has to go with her mother to the doctors with her grandfather. They find out that her grandfather has a horrible disease. Rachel feels bad and decides to get closer to her grandfather. She does and ends up walking with him every day. After a month or two Rachel's grandfather gets put into the hospital. Rachel skips school just to visit him. After a while in the hospital, he dies.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a story about pulling your family together and learning about diseases.

I am a 38 yr old woman who read this book almost 30 years ago!!! I don't remember the specifics of the story between Rachel and her grandpa but what has stayed with me is that this book was incredibly touching. I'm an avid reader and I remember being given this book for my birthday or Christmas. I have fond memories of this book because at 10/11 years old, I was just beginning to "experience" books. I highly recommend this story, well written and touching!

I liked the book but I thought that it was said because of her grandpa getting ill and not listening to any one including the doctor.

The story's about a girl named Rachel and how she bonds with her grandpa while he was expected to die in 3 months. She had a hard time getting along with him because he was stubborn and didn't want help from any one.

I would recommend this book to 13 year old girls because it has some romans and a lot of girls could connect with the story on how she bonds with her grandpa and how she worries about her first kiss and her boy friend. The most they could connect to is how her grandpa got sick.
This is yet another great NFM book. It's about a teenage girl named Rachel who had many difficult situations to deal with. First of all, she had elderly parents and brothers old enough to be her father.(her niece was 3 months younger than her!) Second of all, she had just gotten a new boyfriend, Lewis. Most importantly, her catankerous grandfather was dying. How could she handle these situations?
I enjoyed this book. I found pieces of myself in Rachel. I'm an aspiring writer, and 7 months ago I lost a grandmother who was difficult to get along with, but whom I still loved. I wish I had grown closer to her before her death as Rachel did with her grandpa. "After the Rain" showed that although life and any kind of loving relationship often bring pain, in the end the experience is worthwhile.
