48 pages. Big print. I was disappointed there were only 13 "knock-knock" jokes, most I'd heard before. The bulk of the book revolves around a kid named Crow who likes being considered best in every competition camp has to offer. When he finds out he's not the best at telling "knock-knock" jokes, he challenges reigning champ Willie to a "knock-knock" duel, where the two must walk around camp and think of a knock-knock joke for each person encountered; the first one stumped, loses. Like I mentioned before, there are only thirteen jokes -- the best involve yodeling and a girl named Annie. There isn't much tension between the two adversaries -- at first Crow looks like he's going to be a big jerk, but everyone ends up friends. I wish there would've been a little more character development -- aside from his love for "knock-knock" jokes, Willie remains pretty much a cipher throughout. The book is geared toward 4-8 year olds, and I'm thirty four, so maybe the age discrepancy has to do with the low enjoyment level. It was successful enough for a sequel, "The Camp Knock Knock Mystery," which I haven't had a chance to read.

This book got my son enjoying reading!!! It's funny, challenging for a kindergartener (who is above grade reading level), but it is also really fun!

My students always love reading this book. They have a great time figuring out the knock knock jokes. Many of them are interested in reading the next book, since they enjoyed this one so much.
