We originally had the old version of this Bible and loved it. The very short Bible stories, organized in sections corresponding to the divisions generally used to refer to the books in the Bible itself, each end with the statement that "God loves" whoever the story was about. The stories were well summarized with simple, clear text and the illustrations were sweet but not too sweet. All the major stories were covered, including stories from the book of Acts. The stories were short enough that we usually read an entire section in a sitting rather than one story.

When our old Bible fell into pieces, we purchased the revised version. I wish I had kept the old version for comparison purposes so I could be sure exactly what had changed, but here's what I can tell. The new version has a window for a photo of the child. It adds the statement "and God loves me" to the end of each story in addition to the end of each section as it was before. Some of the story text has been modified, in some cases to enhance accuracy; in other cases for reasons I don't understand. At least two of the sections were split into two separate sections so that the new sections are shorter. Some stories have been omitted, including all the stories from Acts. In fact, I just this week noticed that the story of Jeremiah was missing when my daughter asked about it. Each section of the old version ended with a picture of a modern child doing something, and on the facing page the statement "God loved" and a list of characters from the section "and God loves me!" The new version omits the page with the picture of the child, probably to save space. The way the pictures are printed seems more garish, although the pictures are the same.

When I buy another one of these, which I will probably do soon, I will most likely buy the old version rather than the new. Although I like the photo window and some of the textual changes, I don't like having fewer stories. I still recommend this more than any other Bible storybook for this age group that I've seen, but it is not as good as the original.

My daughter loves this book and it was one of her first reads. She memorized us reading it to her so well it was like she could read it herself. As she began to actually learn to read, she would love to look at the pictures and actually read the words she knew was there before.

This is positively the best Bible for children we have seen in a very long time. We got these for the little ones and the parents are enjoying them just as much.
The artwork is a little bit modern, but not offensive and the children seem to relate to it very well.

I found this to be a very easy way to introduce the bible and it's stories and characters to little toddlers and young children. They enjoyed the pictures and stories and thoroughly enjoyed the recurring phrase "and God loves me"

My granddaughter loved this Bible a year ago when she was 3. The pictures and stories are easy for this age to understand.

Inserting the picture of the child to whom you'll give this little book makes this edition exactly what God's Word should be - personal! To be 100% sure each child gets the message, however, each Bible story ends with "God loved _______ (the name of the Bible story character) and God loves ME!"

Besides the wonderful concept and well-done artwork, I especially love how the text highlights what the Bible actually says without adding thoughts not found in scripture, "translating" each Bible story into words appropriate for every young child you know!

The drawings by Gloria Oestema are extraordinary. You can see pharaoh glowering with rage, Joseph distracted working as a carpenter, but distracted - his mind on something/someone else after the angel speaks with him, Zaccheus high up in a tree, Mary tapping her foot annoyed, and many more. If you have a toddler, the text wont mean much to her but the drawings will. The phrase "And God loves me" can become something she learns by heart!
We received this as a gift, and went out and bought it as a gift for another baby. Highly recommended!
