The late James Montgomery Boice was a master at bringing scriptural truth to the masses. With the heart of a pastor, he could take high doctrine and relate it to the lives of the average Christian. At the same time he could go head-to-head with any Biblical scholar. His depth and delivery ministered to those who listened to his teaching, whether in the pulpit at 10th Presbyterian in Philadelphia or on the radio. As a note, his radio program, The Bible Study Hour is still broadcast across the county.

James Montgomery Boice . The doctrines of grace stand or fall together, and together they point to one central truth: salvation is all of grace because it is all of God; and because it is all of God, it is all for His glory. As James Montgomery Boice points out, no book in the Bible is so filled with joy as Philippians

As James Montgomery Boice points out, no book in the Bible is so filled with joy as Philippians. Even though Paul faced possible execution for his faith, he managed to remain joyful in the midst of terrible circumstances. THE EPISTLES OF JOHN - The three letters of John found near the end of the New Testament have a tendency to be oversimplified or simply overlooked in the study of the Scriptures.

The latest addition to Dr. Boice's popular expositional commentary series, The Epistles of John brings into focus three of John's major themes: righteousness, truth, and love. This commentary not only explains the meaning of the text verse by verse and section by section, but it relates the concerns of the text to the world, the church, and the realities of Christian life. Pastors, Bible students, and laypersons alike will find Boice's easy-to-read commentary an important tool for understanding the letters of the disciple whom Jesus loved.

This is yet another wonderful, expositional commentary by Dr. Boice. His teaching is direct and easy to understand. As a collection of sermons, this commentary is perfect for daily devotions. The Epistles of John are small letters written to the early church as an encouragement to hold fast in the faith. Many had been lost to persecution and others had been lost to unorthodox teachings such as Gnosticism. In the same way, Dr. Boice's exposition of these epistles is an encouragement to contemporary Christians. He applies these truths to our lives today. This book would be especially helpful to those who are wrestling with doubts and lack of assurance of salvation.

More than just a study guide but not as in depth as a commentary, Boice's handling of these three little epistles will be a valuable tool for anyone seeking to pull out all the wisdom on living a Christian life that the Apostle John laid out in arguing against the views of,those trying to tear the early church apart. Well worth having in your collection of Bible study tools, whether as a pastor or lay person.

The Boice Expository Commentary series was not just written by Boice but it "IS" James Boice. You can hear him speak through the words of this book and all the books in this series. These commentaries are not academic expositions of scripture but practical expositions with a focus on application. Very pastoral. I love using these commentaries in preparation for teaching small group studies.

I read a lot of commentaries from Calvin to Henry, and this series by Jim Boyce is the best for small group expository bible study.

I have often found commentaries to be long & dry. James Montgomery Boice fills the pages with Bible based truth and insights that are so easy to take away with you. The truths are practical and he makes it clear how they can be applied. I have read a number of his commentaries and look forward to reading others.

I use Boice among others when I research for my own writings. I have always enjoyed his thoughts and always "pick up" a new thought or two. Not sure if a young Christian would understand some of his interpretation, but any student could grow from reading Boice.

Great pastoral commentary. I used it a lot doing a sermon series through 1 John.
