THE ROSARY is a practical and reverential primer to a centuries old prayer that has touched millions of lives. In the introduction, author Gary Jansen appeals to the universality of one of the original Christian prayers, "Though traditionally considered a Catholic act of devotion, the rosary with its primary focus on the life, death, and resurrection of Christ Jesus, is ultimately a . . . universal prayer--one that can appeal to Christians of all denominations." Written for both Catholic and Protestant Christians, candid explanations on why and how to pray the rosary along with useful instructions on how to get the most out of the meditative and spiritual exercise of repeating prayers are in the first of two sections. Prayers including a visual and spiritual journey that illuminates the teachings of the New Testament follow in the second section.

I just finished reading through this book and I have to say that it is very deep, in that it is really a guide (or manual-handbook) in attaining a level of contemplative and mystical consciousness to connect with God (not gods or "we are god" within us, but the great "I AM"). So it is a "launch pad" of sorts for those who are looking and desiring to go there using the utility of the rosary.
But it also does explain (to me anyway) the power of praying the rosary and why "Evil" abhors it.
In summary it is a well written, concise book which helps one focus upon the propitiatory mission of Jesus - obviously an anathema to the Devil and his hoard of evil demons, as well as our current popular culture. For if there is in fact a need for a "savior" there has to be a reason for his saving work, which therefore implies "sin", verifying "guilt" for bad behavior, which people have a big problem recognizing.
This book can't at all be mixed into the "soup" of feel good Eastern religious beliefs, humanistic philosophies, or shaman spiritualism "it is Jesus the Jewish Savior, 100 proof".

This is a beautiful book when it is in color. I have been waiting for a copy for a relative with cancer for months. I was so happy to see that it was on its way. When it arrived it was NOT the same as my copy. I would not have purchased it. I do not want to go through the hassle of returning it. I am so disappointed! If you order this book, make sure you are getting the one that is in color.

Ordered this book for more guidance praying the rosary - does beautifully illustrate the different mysteries. Gives very basic guidelines but thought there would be more history or information behind the different mysteries. For the price and information in the book, it is not a bad investment if you are interested in expanding your religious library.

Disappointed in this purchase for multiple reasons. The original was full of color illustrations and art work, very nice. This edition is black and white. Also the cover was dirty and marred.

I bought this book because I had just finished reading Gary Jansen's other book "Holy Ghosts: Or How a (Not-so) Good Catholic Boy Became a Believer in Things That Go Bump in the Night". We had a similar experience to his except ours was way more terrifying and intense - worse than any movie. Not being religious at all, my daughter (who had not been Baptized because that stuff was "mumbo-jumbo tradition that was simply ritualistic and meaningless in today's world) stood in our dining room one day and declared, "I think we need a priest." And so began our completely baffling, surprising and uncharacteristic-of-us journey into Catholicism and Deliverance.

Gary Jansen has the wonderful ability to write as if he were your good friend or brother. He is learned enough to be credible and "average Joe" enough to be believable and relatable.

Gary's asides and written thoughts are sometimes very funny. He is my new favorite author.

I was told getting rid of non-Christian items in my house along with praying the rosary would have a significant impact on getting rid of the evil attacking us, so I zoomed to the store and bought books and directions on how to do the Rosary. I worried it would be BORING and tedious -
until the day I was clutching my beads praying with the directions on my lap and an audible hiss, growl then a scream happened across the room. A 'wind' whooshed the sounds away.
Man oh man! Guess who prays the rosary daily now??? Gary's book is a delight and you just FEEL better and closer to Heaven reading it.
I recommend both of his books highly and I hope he publishes more soon!
