MEGA FREEDY
I was immensely moved and inspired by the story of Blessed Fr. Solanus. Admittedly, I really enjoy geeking out on saints now, as opposed to recoiling in horror from books like this, which is what I used to do (never having read one). But what a wondrously beautiful human being he was. And as a big-family Irish American whose devout (wonderful) parents were both born in 1923 I was delighted by thinking, many times, of how this extraordinary man would have clicked so well with us. A thumbnail sketch: He loved language, humor, music, nature. He was incredibly sensitive and tender but the ultimate hard working non-wimp. Loved to play baseball with serious gusto, and was good! Relished the occasional hotdog and beer. Well acquainted with personal tragedy. Experienced some prejudice firsthand. Loved Ireland; spoke out against the injustices there like a (civilized, principled) lion. Cherished his family, and they him. Far above all he loved God, and tried with all his might to live in Christ. He seems to have succeeded very well indeed, as many outright miracles appear to have happened through his loving intercession on behalf of those who requested his prayers on behalf of those who suffered.
So. After reading this book and listening to Fr. Benedict Groeschel relate stories about what it was like to know him I am totally crazy about Fr. Solanus Casey. I'd recommend getting to know him through this book. You can also listen to one of Fr Groeschel's stories about him (if my memory serves) during a talk he gave about Divine Mercy at the Institute for Catholic Culture, available for free on YouTube.

I enjoyed this book very much. It reviewed the life of Fr Solanus Casey who spend most of his life in the Detroit area. It lets readers know that in spite of modern pressures and individual can not only live a healthy Christian life but they can rise higher than that. Solanus Casey is on track to becoming the first American born saint in the Catholic church. His career included many healings and other incredible events. I recommend this read to anybody interested in spiritual life.

When I purchased this book, I actually purchased two, one for me and, one for my friend.

I had read the book before when visiting my sister in Boston and wanted to read it again. It is a great read.

One other point is that my grandmother met Father Solanus personally when she was going through a difficult time and he prayed for her and our family.

My brother (who has also read the book) and I believe that through the years those prayers have been answered in more ways then one.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to give my feedback on this book.

Fr Casey was not very "smart".
He was assigned the menial jobs of doorman
and training altar boys. Apparently you dont
have to be very "smart" to to lead a holy life
and pull off some miracle 5 stars.
