I admit I was skeptical about reading a humorous novel on such a delicate subject. Breast cancer is no laughing matter, right? But Laura Jensen Walker tackled this very serious topic in a way that is humorous without irreverence. She pulls back the privacy curtain and lets readers into the very heart of a young, single woman who is diagnosed with this dreaded disease. Readers follow Natalie through detection, diagnosis, surgery, and reconstruction and witness the fears, social challenges and difficult decisions she faces.

In Reconstructing Natalie, our heroine not only battles the disease, she also has to come to terms with the responses of those she loves most, and even people she hardly knows, as they react to her diagnosis. Each relationship is permanently altered in the process, including her relationship with herself.

Laura Jensen Walker hooked this reader from the very first lines and held me captive through the last sentence. She had me laughing out loud at several points in the book, wiping away my tears in others. Laura accomplished this without making me feel emotionally manipulated. It is apparent that her own experiences, though somewhat different than Natalie's, shaped the story. The emotional impact is powerful.

This was a wonderful and funny book. The author is an amazing Christian woman who is a breast cancer survivor, and special speaker on the topic. She wrote this book for all of the younger women facing breast cancer, but you can read her own life experience in it as well.

Natalie is a 20-something woman who's just been diagnosed with breast cancer. She struggles with understanding God's will meshes with such an experience. The book is full of tears, laughter, growth, hope, and a bit of sweet romance.

The funny moments in this book really balance out the serious subject of breast cancer. I'd highly recommend it to women of all ages. It gives great insight into dealing with breast cancer, especially as a Christian.

I first found this book as a random super on sale purchase. I liked it fairly well, and passed it on to a friend who is a breast cancer survivor. She stayed up half the night finishing it. It really described the emotions she had gone through with her cancer. She raved about it. I ordered another one for a friend with a new breast cancer diagnosis. It has a lot of humor, which you might not expect from the subject matter. It also has a predictable romance. It shows great insight into what it feels like to be told you have breast cancer. It is Christian without being preachy. It is an entertaining read.

I had a breast cancer scare and was looking for a book of hope. This was it! It was filled with humor, but still touched on a serious topic.
I was uncertain
at first when I started reading this, but the more I read the betterI understood what message she was trying to get too.
Encouraging for those who have to have masectomys.
