This is a small book that deals with the doctrine of Biblical inerrancy by Dr. Charles Caldwell Ryrie. Dr. Ryrie looks at some of the foundational issues regarding Biblical inerrancy. Dr. Charles C. Ryrie says that our main presupposition in viewing Scripture, will influence our view of Scripture , when addressing alleged errors. Dr. Charles Ryrie gives some alleged errors and contradictions brought forth by skeptics and liberals, and shows that there are explanations for so-called discrepancies. The last chapter looks at the consequences of holding a weak view of Biblical inerrancy. Some of the consequences are: a distaste for biblical sexual ethics, tending to see many things as cultural in Scripture (especially pertaining to issues of gender), and having an attitude of insubordination to government. Dr. Ryrie has a great ability to communicate difficult concepts and make them available to the layman. This is an excellent introduction to the important issue of Biblical inerrancy. Highly recommended.

One of the great things that Ryrie points out in this book is that the Bible does have apparant "problems" within the text. By that he means that a person looking for errors to discredit the Bible could probably find many ways to attack the bible. Biblical inerrancy is a matter of faith. When you trust that the bible is free of errors, you understand that what might seem to be a contradiction can easily be explained with a little extra study. The Bible is error-free, and all of the 'apparant errors' claimed are based on people's desires to discredit God and His Word. Ryrie makes that case very well, especially for the lay reader.

I recommend this book to the Christian looking to strengthen his/her faith.
