from Wheatoi College, the . from the Wheaton College Graduate School, and the P. from the University of Chicago. This book is the single most important work I know of dealing with the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus and His Kenosis. In defense of His Deity, we have often been guilty of the Alexandrian error of under-emphasizing His humanity.

The Presence & the Power book. This is an excellent study on the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus, with implications for the life of every Christ-follower. After setting the groundwork, the study works through Jesus' conception & birth, boyhood & youth, baptism & temptation, ministry & death & resurrection.

4 Gerald F Hawthorne, The Presence & the Power (Dallas: Word Pub, 1991). 5 Vos, Biblical Theology, 321-2. 6 Peter said, God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38). anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good. and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38). We see then the pervasive presence and influence of the Spirit in the whole life of Christ, from conception (birth in the old adamic world) to resurrection (birth in the new realm of the. Spirit).

The Holy Spirit plays a key role in the Acts of the Apostles, leading to the use of the titles "Book of the Holy Spirit" or the "Acts of the Holy Spirit" for that book of the New Testament. Of the about seventy occurrences of the word Pneuma (πνεῦμα) in Acts, fifty five refer to the Holy Spirit

Inspired by the Holy Spirit I started to pray. In the same evening the Holy Spirit led me outside

Inspired by the Holy Spirit I started to pray. It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon, biblically the ninth hour. I felt the presence of God in my room. In the same evening the Holy Spirit led me outside. It was as Jesus said: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8) I had a great burden in my heart for missions.

Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost), is a term for various notions of a divine essence or entity within the Abrahamic religions. In the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) and Jewish writings ruach ha-kodesh (Hebrew: רוח הקודש, "holy spirit" also transliterated ruaḥ ha-qodesh) it is used to refer to the spirit of YHWH (רוח יהוה), literally meaning "the spirit of holiness" or "the spirit of the holy place". Teach me to do your will, For you are my God. Your spirit is good; May it lead me on level ground.

Is the Holy Spirit actually dismissed from the book? The Spirit is clearly in. .Six times in Acts the Spirit’s ministry is described as the gift of the Holy Spirit

Is the Holy Spirit actually dismissed from the book? The Spirit is clearly in charge of the church in the opening chapters (4:31; 5:32). The Holy Spirit is the means by which Jesus continues to do his work in the world. Thus when the apostles are recorded in Acts as performing miracles, which are an outworking of their spiritual power, the acts of power are attributed to the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 3:6; 4:10; 9:34). Six times in Acts the Spirit’s ministry is described as the gift of the Holy Spirit. Six times also in Acts the Holy Spirit is spoken of as being received.

My late professor Dr. Hawthorne was one of the most godly men and mentors I ever had. The fact that he was also one of the greatest Evangelical Greek scholars was icing on the cake. This book is the single most important work I know of dealing with the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus and His Kenosis. In defense of His Deity, we have often been guilty of the Alexandrian error of under-emphasizing His humanity. I believe the Chalcedonian Definition corrected the problems left in the wake of the Council of Ephesus. In an intensely practical way, Dr. Hawthorne's The Presence and the Power is a book that helps make the theological implications of Chalcedon explicit for us today. If Jesus did His miracles solely out of His Divinity, then let's face it, He is no genuine example for us to follow. We don't have Divine natures and therefore we can easily excuse as inapplicable much of Christ's life as worthy of emulation for us today. However, if in fact, Jesus' did His miracles as a man empowered by the Holy Spirit, not accessing His Divine nature as the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, then all of a sudden we are all accountable. The fact is, Jesus did leave us an example. He instructed His disciples and their spiritual descendants to rely on the same Holy Spirit He did to live empowered Kingdom lives. This is one of the strongest messages coming from this work of Dr. Hawthorne's. No one can question his handling of the relevant Greek texts and I believe his conclusions are irrefutable. I pray that the Church will stop allowing the cults to dictate the way we speak of Christ's humanity by all-too-often deemphasizing it into almost a heretical place. My prayer is that more and more Pentecostal and Charismatic Christians will carefully read this work as it proves to be one of the strongest scholarly apologetics for their theology and practice they will ever find.

This book is an in-depth study of the concept of "very God, very Man" in depicting the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus. It is clearly written and insightful in its presentation. The study of this book will enrich one's life.

This is a great book for studying what the Bible says about the use of the holy spirit in your life since we receive it at Baptism
