This book which I had to buy for more off ebay because my Amazon order of it rendered the wrong book, is excellent! The recipes are totally unique and very healthy and were collected from many sources, often from doctors, by the author or else were from his wife or some other source. Most recipes do require at least some work (more or less) and often call for ingredients some will consider exotic or hard to find unless ordering them online. At the bottom of each recipe is a wonderful colored rectangular strip giving information
about the key ingredient in the recipe as to nutritional value and conditions it helps heal or treat. Near the beginning of the book the author gives his top 10 longevity foods although the book contains additional ones in its recipes. Gourmets will love this book. It is sophisticated and fun to try out. Enjoy !

I have been working with a doctor of Chinese medicine for a year. I have made great strides in my health eating according to her instructions. I've eliminated gluten, diary, red meat, and spicy foods. My brother is fortunate enough to live in LA and is a patient of Dr. Mao. I am so inspired to take my eating to a higher level using the recipes in Dr. Mao's cookbook. I will be able to prepare wonderful soups that don't include any dairy products. There is also great information on how to incorporate Chinese practices into your life and the benefits of them in the beginning of the book.

Knowing him personally as a caring,sensitive physician who takes your whole being into consideration, I heartily endorse this book. Interesting, tasty, different, healthy, hard to find some ingredients where I live. I make the spice combinations and this is a new experience. Making my own spice combinations keeps me away from unexpected sulfide and other preservatives that made me sick. My last purchased Curry powder had me very sick for 4 hours. I thought keeping away from prepared food was enough, it is not you now have to watch every prepared spice jar. I continue to enjoy this book.
It was okay but still a good book. Not quite what I expected. I thought it would be more area specific with regards to recipes.
