Educational psychology is a field in which there has been an explosion of research (and of theories) in the past 30 years, and a matching proliferation of educational fads and products that are being marketed to school systems every day as the fix for one problem or another. Dr. Woolfolk Hoy brings order to this cacophony, highlighting the theories that seem to do the best job of explaining how students (and teachers) think and behave, and emphasizing what has actually worked in classrooms. Probably the author, in light of her prodigious experience and deserved authority, could be even more selective in what work she chooses to mention, but sorting through the stacks of journal articles is a huge endeavor, and I give Dr. W-H full marks for her conscientiousness and fairness. She does not run with the fads, but gives her critical evaluation of the research on both sides.

Woolfolk's work is exceptional. What I like about this edition is that it seems like she was trying to work in the technology piece in an obvious way rather than make it a fluid part of the text. I guess that's how you get the next edition of a book, by inserting info. to update.

This is a required textbook for my teaching credential class, but I really loved it. It is easy to read, with great examples and lots of tips on how to manage behavior in the classroom. I wish some of the techniques mentioned were supplemented with visual information. For example, with examples of classrooms managed with cooperative techniques, directive techniques, etc. But I found a few things on youtube. I think the future of textbooks is written material with visual material.

I didn't. I expected a bound book. But what I got was okay. I had to buy a sturdy binder, but as it turns out, I didn't have to lug this text around. If you have a crate on wheels, go with my binder idea. If you prefer bound books, make sure it doesn't say "LOOSE LEAF" on the product description. Apparently "Student Value" means there's a catch to it...

The textbook itself is a completely and utterly worth having if you'll be working with children. It is loaded with case studies and responses by various educators on how to approach and deal with these situations.

I was shocked to discover that after paying quite a pretty penny (over $90) for this E-book, i only have access for 180 days, and for further access i'd need to pay more or i could get a special rate on the loose leaf text. Definitely NOT worth the money invested as there is no prosperity to my purchase. As a student at the end of the first semester when these 180 days expire what is the recourse for the second semester.
I have not even opened the access card, quite put off by this poor investment. Even the prospects of printing are not even a consideration as that in itself is another cost.
Unless the access point for this E-Text is modified, I would caution any person interested in this item to be mindful of the partial e-access window.

One of the best books I have studied. It has long chapters and is pretty hard to read, but it is very descriptive and a truly great way to begin learning about teaching. The class I used this book for was one of the more difficult ones in my university, but if you actually read this book you will do fine.

Very good book, so I kept it as a resource for later use.
Content is fine, but the physical quality of the book is poor for the price. This author needs to take a review course on how to cite sources.
