They have been updated in line with the simple view of reading and the renewed Primary Framework for Literacy. They now include guidance for group/guided reading, comprehension and word recognition, and assessment. These replace the existing Teaching Notes and Guided Reading Cards. The storybooks are unchanged, but notes for parents/carers and teaching assistants have been added to the inside covers. These notes replace the existing Take-Home Cards.

This book is one of several that goes through the life of a family (mom, dad, chip, biff, kipper and floppy the dog). My daughter loved reading this series as it gave her a chance to learn more about the family in different scenarios. The books progressively get harder over time, i.e. length, word difficulty. For this particular book, it's about the family who is looking at a new house to buy so each child looks at a different room and and says "I like this room." It uses repetition to reinforce vocabulary, which is very handy when a child is learning to read. Additionally, each book has a set of tips on how to read the books and words to look for or words that it is reinforcing, i.e. like. This book is from the UK, so during the series, it will use "mum" instead of "mom." I found this book and series to be useful when I was reading to my daughter when she was little, and when she first started reading at 4, as it was the perfect length for emerging readers.

I bought 6 sets to use with my first grade reading groups. The students love the characters and enjoy how one story leads to the next. I also bought the Stage 5 Storybooks which take the characters on different adventures. The pictures are great, and the students love finding all the interesting details the illustrator adds. I would definitely recommend these books for home or school.
