Marvel Knights Spider-Man features one of comics' most inventive writers . This was my first Marvel book after years of DC Comics.

Marvel Knights Spider-Man features one of comics' most inventive writers matched with an iconic Marvel hero. I'm no 'exclusive to DC' fanboy, it's just that I was trepidatious about getting into the Marvel universe with no good starting point. In any case, my Spider-Man curiosity got the better of me and I started this book after seeing it on multiple 'Must-Read Spider-Man stories' lists.

The Sensational Spider-Man (vol. 2) is the name of a comic book series starring Spider-Man and published monthly by Marvel Comics for 41 issues between 2004 and 2007. Formerly it was published under the Marvel Knights imprint (as Marvel Knights Spider-Man, vol. 1, issues The underlying difference between this title and the other Spider-Man titles was that Marvel Knights Spider-Man was done with a more mature slant (in style if not content), thus the "Marvel Knights" prefix.

From Book 1: DOWN AMONG THE DEAD PART 1 Being Spider-Man has put an enormous strain on Peter Parker's personal life. Despite its rather unwieldy title (Spider-Man by Mark Millar Ultimate Collection), I believe this collection would be a wonderful addition to those of you who love Spider-Man, especially if you enjoy his "classic" foes.

One of the best comics.-

This was a little disappointing. I've got an ever-growing collection of Marvel comics, but not much Spider-Man, so I wanted to add something since he's such a huge part of Marveldom. I liked Mark Millar's run on Wolverine, so I thought this looked like a good place to jump in.

I just didn't see much here that was interesting or unique, unfortunately. And I'm not a big fan of the art throughout most of the book. I guess I'll stick to only catching Spider-Man when he crosses over with the likes of Daredevil or the Avengers.

Loved it from beginning to end! Get this book!

I must say I really liked this volume of Spider-Man. The artwork is just right as well as the story itself, not to mention how well female characters including Black Cat and Mary Jane are beautifully drawn. And sure everyone is familiar with the Sinister Six, but how about the Sinister Twelve?! Yikes, looks like Spidey's got his hands full in this one. Well all and all, great art, great story, and great action all together. This is definitely one for the fans.

This is my Spider-Man! Despite its rather unwieldy title (Spider-Man by Mark Millar Ultimate Collection), I believe this collection would be a wonderful addition to those of you who love Spider-Man, especially if you enjoy his "classic" foes. Disclaimer: Spider-Man was one of my favorite reads during the 80's and into the early 90's, so I don't know what he has been up to over the last decade (except for Civil War). I am not even sure where this story fits in canon-wise, but it collects Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1-12...if that is a frame of reference for you.

***MINOR SPOILER ALERTS***
Peter is married to MJ in this, so I am sure that will tell most of you when this story takes place within the Marvel timeline.
Also, while Spidey does take on about a dozen classic foes, this collection really focuses on four or five supervillains, while the others are in a handful of panels (at the most).
***END SPOILER ALERT***

Terry Dodson and Frank Cho shared the illustration duties and the they did an amazing job. I don't know who colored the books, but the colors were very vivid and really helped the art leap off the the slick pages of the collection.

For those reading this, please post a reply below if there are any Spider-Man graphic novels or trade collections you would recommend. After having a great time with this collection, I really want to dive back in to the other great Spidey stories are out there. Thanks in advance!

tl;dr? Buy this book!

I thought it was great. Each character was done very well, from Black Cat to Green Goblin to Electro & Vulture... It was tons of comic fun with humor, suspense, dread, you name it. If you want to jump into Spider-Man comics, I'd recommend this as it's pretty self-contained and has a bit of everything for you, including a cameo by the Avengers! Awesome read.
I like it a looooooot
