The Universe, as the Post Terran Mining Corporation knows it, is about to end. Reports show massive build-ups of mining drones infected iwth the alien transmode virus near all PTMC holdings outside the Sol system; estimates put total contamination at forty-eight hours.

When intelligence reveals that an alien command post or ship is directing the mech invasion, Benjamin St. John is paired with a sexy, tough-as-titanium Collective Earth Defense pilot and ordered by PTMC Director Samuel Dravis to find and destroy the alien stronghold.

But first Ben and his partner must battle thorugh an unprecendented attack by CED and PTMC mercenary forces and uncover the mystery behind it--all while contending with the blackmailing, double-crossing Director Dravis, who schemes to crush the mech invasion and his bitter enemy, the CED, in one fell swoop. But his plan has a flaw, for his instrument is again Ben St. John--ex-Marine Corps pilot and control freak hell bent on saving the universe, collecting his money, then kicking Dravis's butt from Sol to Tycho Brahe.

The first Descent novel successfully drew me in, so I had to buy this one, too. I was not disappointed. A word of caution: this one will not make much sense without either reading the first book or playing the game. I recommend both to get the full effect.

That one word does a good job at describing this novel. It's the second instalment in a planned trilody (I believe part 3, Equinox will be out around November 1999) and it's everything the original Descent novel is, and more. Peter Telep has succeeded in capturing the claustrophobic atmosphere of Descent, and actually attaching a compelling story to it. If only the games were more like the novels. In three words : buy this book!

It takes talent to create a believeable tale from a computer game. Even if that game is as rich and immersive as the Descent series is. Peter Telep has that talent and has again allowed us to suspend all disbelief and sit in a shrieking Pyro-GX mine hunter with adrenaline pumping as the lasers stab and the missles fly through the dark corridors of the PTMC mines. AAAARRRRRGGGHHH Whooooo!!! I can't wait for the next in the series.

I am amazed. Most writers that make sequels to books end up completley ruining the second book and basically destroying any chanses the series has for a 3rd book. I expected the same when I read this one. I was completley wrong. This book is even better then the first! I was really able to connect with the main charachters better in this one yet it still had all the action a book needs to keep its reader from falling asleep. Definatley buy this one! It's worth it!

It's been almost two years since I bought this book, I've finally taken the time to write a review. All there really is to say is that this book is great. The first one was great, this one is great, and the third is great as well. Buy them all, read them all. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Peter has captured the true art of Descent. I just finished the book and found myself in the world of Descent. I felt that I was there with the characters. Peter has inspired the world with Descent and hopefully more to come. Good Luck, Peter.
