I’ve got to find Eternity Base and I’m having no luck. There’s no other record of Eternity Base here that I could find. The 67th Engineer’s unit history had just those photos in it, no paperwork that might have had a location listed on it.

I’ve got to find Eternity Base and I’m having no luck. I’ve called all four people on that list you gave me and they won’t say a thing. You could try the enlisted personnel in the company, but from what Freely said, nobody in the unit really knew where they were or why they were building what they were building.

Very interesting story; well done. I like Bob Mayer, he can spin a good yarn. Secret bases, missing nuclear weapons, North Korea, Russia, the United States of course, and more spooks than you can shake a stick at. Good stuff!

Maverick federal employee Sammy Pintella, obsessed with uncovering the fate of her MIA father, makes a startling discovery while rifling through some inactive government files. A dozen, faded black and white photos seem to point to the existence of a secret US Military base built in the frozen wastelands of Antarctica during the height of the Cold War. Aided by Special Forces veteran Dave Riley, she heads for Antarctica. But they aren’t alone. Spies, North Koreans and other shadowy forces are also en route, because deep inside Eternity Base is something people will go to extreme lengths to get: a cache of nuclear warheads. This is my first introduction to the Green Beret books by Bob Mayer so I can't speak from experience where characters are concerned. Let it suffice to say that for this book, the characters seemed believable. I thought the book was fairly well written although there were some errors and omissions. The story line was plausible and well paced, albeit perhaps a bit far fetched. The book read like a stand alone novel until the epilogue which, in my opinion, almost ruined the entire read for me. It was just plain ridiculous in light of the realities of the story; and although it left the door open for a follow-up...I gotta ask, WHY? I'm not really sure I liked any of the characters enough (other than Riley perhaps) to read another novel with a continuation of where this story line seemed to be heading. You'll have to read this one and make up your own mind on that point.

All told, this book is an exciting read and a good diversion and, as such, I give it a solid four stars.

As other reviewers have noted, someone does not know how to use spell check at the editor's office. Many words are misspelled or misused in this book, as in other books earlier in this series. These editors are supposed to be professionals and they are editing like a high school newspaper !!!!!
No, I will retract that statement, I have seen high school newspapers that do a better job of editing than the editors of this book. The author also needs to do a better job of writing rather than using old ideas in a new location. I enjoyed the earlier books in this series but the author should have quit while he was ahead rather than trying to keep going with the series.

Good solid well written and full of action.

We have two sisters, Sammy and Connor. They lost they're Dad to the Viet Nam war. He's one of the many MIA.

Sammy works in the records department for the Govt. She comes across something she can't find any info on. Eternity Base.

Connor is an up and coming newscaster for SSN news. She and her sister are as different as night and day. Connor is all about being a famous newcaster.

In the course of her dig for info on Eternity Base Sammy is noticed by those who don't want any info out about Eternity Base. She's kidnapped. Those that kidnap her use drugs and find out all she knows.

Sammy had dropped the info in Connors lap. Connor approached her bosses and they sent her and a team to Antarctica to look for EB. Now those that kidnapped Sammy know all about the trip. They also have a spy among them.

Sammy gets free, kills her captor and heads for Mike Pike. A friend of hers.

Pike is ex-military and employs ex military. One of whom is Dave Riley. Dave had retired from the Army after the death of his gal pal Donna. Donna was a cop in the Chicago PD and she was killed in a busted robbery. Dave and she were more than friends. This hit Dave hard.

Dave isn't his old self. He's going through the motions and his friend Pike wants him to go with Sammy to Antarctica as a bodyguard. He goes.

So begins one hell of a good read. This one has many folks who don't want Eternity Base revealed. They also want all the murders and missing about Eternity Base kept in the dark.

A good one and I sure hope Dave gets back on track. He's way less than he used to be. Five stars.

Another enjoyable read from Bob Mayer.

It's a book I got for free a while back as a Kindle download and just got around to reading it.

A character from some previous Mayer books is in this one as well, but it is not really a series about him and the book stands alone pretty well.

A pretty decent premise, if a little far fetched. A researcher in the government archives comes across some files that contain anomalous information and her investigation leads to her abduction and near murder, the discovery of a secret base in the Antarctic, and setting off of a nuke in the secret base by North Korean commandos.

Like I said, pretty far fetched, but still an enjoyable read. Mayer is more or less a self published author but his work is generally well edited and proofed and does not have a bunch of annoying writing errors in it as so many SP works do.

Its a book that fans of the genre might well find worthy of actually buying.

This is my first Bob Mayer book - the description pulled me in so I downloaded a free copy during one of the Amazon promotions and wasn't disappointed. Since I was unaware that Dave Riley is the main character in a series of books (found this out when reading the reviews after finishing the story), I didn't have a benchmark to compare any of the characters to and accepted their abilities for what they were. I was a little disappointed with Sammy and expected her to exhibit more of the skills that her father taught while she was growing up - then accepted Riley's leadership role when took over the group. I was intrigued by the storyline and wondered how a project so huge could be kept a secret since 1971...some people had to die to preserve it. We also learn that money is power and everybody has a price.

Overall, Eternity Base is well written, entertaining and a compelling read; capable as a stand alone book within a series. It does have some twists and turns along the way, but Mr. Mayer kept me guessing until the very end. Highly recommended!

I'm a huge fan of Bob Mayer. I enjoy action thrillers that are gritty and realistic. Nothing is more irritating than a hero that seems impervious to fatigue, dirt, and bullets. Mayer spins a fascinating web of intrigue surrounding a secret military base in the Antarctic, where there aren't supposed to be any. You have a conspiracy to coverup the information, you have the North Koreans being, well, themselves. You have political maneuvering behind the scenes. It takes a great author to weave this tapestry together and keep it all straight, and you drawn in. Mayer does this almost effortlessly. Few authors compel me to fight sleep in order to see what happens next. Bob Mayer is one of those few, with Lee Child, Ben Coes, Brad Thor, Bernard Lee De Leo, and a couple of others.
