I enjoy reading Catherine Cookson books. I liked the first half of this book. Catherine Cookson's books always leave you with the desire to read yet another one. I am now looking forward to reading The Branded Man!!

I enjoy reading Catherine Cookson books. I felt it had a good plot and well developed characters you either cheered for or you wanted to see come to a bad end. But I felt it should ended sooner. I was left depressed by the way the people I had cheered for, were treated.

Oh the tangled webs we create! This is certainly a tangled web of hatred, violence, love, jealousy, ambition, and defeat. The hero and heroine certainly have many struggles. Often the ones we envy and think of as having the most potential in life; turn out to be the ones we most pity in the end. This is an intriguing tale and the highs and lows of the narrative do not disappoint. We experience many emotions along the way. We can feel the despair, the sense of loss, the shock and outrage, and we are finally helped to face life not through the 'rose colored glasses' of youth, but a realistic view of the ups and downs and sorrows we must all experience sooner or later. A good read.

I enjoy reading Catherine Cookson books. I liked the first half of this book. I felt it had a good plot and well developed characters you either cheered for or you wanted to see come to a bad end. But I felt it should ended sooner. I was left depressed by the way the people I had cheered for, were treated. I would read this book again and close the book toward the end.

I read this book years ago under the name The Bannaman Legacy. I ordered not knowing that it was the same book. Enjoyed it again. Great family saga.

Good Catherine Cookson book. A bit on the long side, but some people may like that.
This is one of my favorites authors. Her books are very well written and it's easy to become involved with the characters.
