You might find this recommendation strange but I recommend watching the TV series first and then read the book. Actually, buy the series on disks so you can watch it over and over. I watch it about once every 1-2 years.

I enjoyed this comic novel when I first read it 40 years ago. Rereading it today, I enjoyed it even more. Sure, it's set squarely in the England of the 1970s. But Reggie is Everyman, and the humor is timeless.

I used to watch the series on PBS. The books were the basis for the series and bring back old memories.

One of the best books ever written, possibly THE best book ever written. And the original (Leonard Rossiter ) TV version is one of the best TV shows ever broadcast!

Read the book, you will love it for the rest of your life!

Like the series of the same name, this is truly a gem! Read it, or watch it, I did both and do every few years. Funny, witty, sad, and wonderful - Goodbye Reggie.

If you love the dry wit of British Humor...if you are a fan of Fawlty Towers, then grab this. This is one of those under the radar UK comedies from the 70's that you have to invest the time in to get the benefit from. This is character humor and it takes about two episodes to start getting the humor that these characters generate. But once you're in, you will love it.
And once you have watched it once, you will re watch it again and again...or to paraphrase CJ "I didn't get to where I am today by not re watching Reginald Perrin over and over again!"
