The Mysteries of Osiris (or Sokar-Osiris, as they were more anciently known) was one of the most important national festivals of ancient Egypt. In this major festival celebrated at the close of the first season, the myths around the death of the god Osiris and his ascension not to rebirth, but to the kingship of the blessed dead in the underworld or afterlife called Duat, were reenacted over a series of public and private ceremonies held throughout ancient Egypt.

The young scribe Iker has finally realised that, in pursuing Pharaoh Senusret with his hatred, he chose the wrong target, & the real enemy is elsewhere. The enemy, the one who is attacking the Tree of Life at Abydos, is in fact the Herald, that baleful individual who is rallying troops on the borders in order to invade Egypt.

Book 2 in the series of 4 moves the plot along and the continuation of life in ancient Egypt. I think the Author should have used The 1st King of the XII Dynasty instead of Senusret III. By his time Egypt was stable as opposed to the early crisis in the Dynasty. The other problem I found was the stereotyping of the bad guys who sound like 21st century terrorists with magical powers

Christian Jacq is not well-known by American readers, but his series of books on Egypt are wonderful "reads", and his life-long study as an Eygptologist gives him great credibility. He books really dig at the heart of the pharonic period, its people, its beliefs, and its culture. The four novel series of "The Mysteries of Osiris" are riveting to read, the "The Way of Fire" does everything a first book in the series should do. It sets up the characters, the plot, and the magnificent landscape where you as a reader are going to reside. While fictional in essence, it is rooted in historical texts and papryi.
This fast-paced and action-packed opener to the series is bound to whet your appetite for what follows. And you won't regret it.
