The Trouble with Keeping Mum. Rosie Wallace. When Annie finds out she's pregnant, aged 44, it comes as a bit of a shock - after all, she's been celibate for five years. As a divorced single-mother caring for both a teenage son and an elderly parent, Annie has enough on her plate without having to look after a new baby as well - especially as she still hasn't figured out who the father is. There are two candidates in the running: her ex-boyfriend Tariq and Andrew, the widowed leader of the Scottish Parliament. A Delicious Recipe for Domestic Disaster: Take one small town where everyone thinks they know everyone else's business.

Annie Cochrane has it all up in the air: a demanding job in the Scottish Government, a teenage son with problems at school, and a mother whose behaviour is getting increasingly erratic. There just aren't enough hours in the day, especially when there are two men on her mind and a devious First Minister plotting to end her career.

There are two candidates for father—an ex-boyfriend called Tariq and the widowed leader of the Scottish Parliament called Andrew. At the same time Annie's elderly mother is becoming confused and needs care—she finds herself in the situation of having to look after a new baby and an ailing parent, on top of this the press (she's a health minister) become obsessed with finding out the identity of the father.

Started off well but slowed down in the middle which was a shame. Easy read.

A thoroughly enjoyable read - mixed with humour and intrigue. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a bit of realistic drama.
