The Murder Of Tutankhamen" is a very well-written book that never bores you and keeps you reading. Brier presents not only the facts and evidence about Tut's murder, but also gives an interesting lesson on Egypt's history and he makes clear how the factors that killed Tut came to be. This is a book that is incredibly packed with information, fatcs, and evidence. It feels more like an exotic detective novel.

First Brier puts Tutankhamen's life in historical perspective by reconstructing the turbulent times in which he lived: A scion of the 18th Dynasty, Tutankhamen was the son of the great king Akhenaten, the monotheist who sought to destroy Egypt's traditional polytheistic religion. Succeeding to the throne as a child, Tutankhamen allowed the regent, Aye, to make the practical decisions of governance until he achieved adulthood. In his eccentric but entertaining Egyptian Mummies (1994), Brier (Philosophy/C. announced his intention to conduct a mummification of a human cadaver in the ancient manner.

However, the detective and the story are actual here, and it is through forensic evidence and scholarly sleuthing that Bob Brier assembles his persuasive conclusions."--The Boston Globe"Respected Egyptologist Bob Brier, specialist in paleopathology and host of the Learning Channel's acclaimed series "The Great Egyptians," believes it can. Skillfully combining known historical events with evidence gathered by advanced technologies, Brier has re-created the suspenseful story of religious upheaval and political intrigue that likely resulting in the murder of the teenage king Tutankhamen." --Booklist* (starred review)"A fascinating blend of ancient history, forensic medicine, and ratiocinative detective work."--Kirkus Reviews

Dr. Brier leads the reader to believe in the title of the book that Tutankhamen was murdered and this assumption is compounded by the subtitle "A True Story." It is based on a set of skull X-rays obtained by Dr. Harrison of the University of Liverpool in 1968 under less than optimal conditions. The "X-ray" shown in the book in fig.25 is actually a photograph of the real plate and Dr. Connolly of the University of Liverpool who is currently in charge of the X-rays has also sent me this photo. I have shown it to several neuroradiologists here at the University of Utah and the verdict was unanimous that no conclusions can be drawn from the picture because it is too ambiguous. This was also the verdict of the radiologists at Liverpool. Fig. 26 gives the impression that Dr. Brier is looking at an actual X-ray on the view box when in fact it is the same photo which I have in my possession. Brier and Irwin have never seen the actual X-rays! Dr. Connolly with whom - as a neurologist - I have been in touch for several years, has not released a copy of the X-rays to me until September of 2001 when they were used in the Discovery Channel's "The Assassination of King Tut, which was shown here and in the UK recently. The video, obviously based on this book, presents in essence Brier's conclusions... In spite of what one sees on the Discovery channel video the X-rays are normal and will now be presented to the medical community. The final sentence in Brier's book, before the Epilogue, "...the most reasonable explanation is that Aye is guilty of the murder of Tuthankhamen..." is pure fantasy. So is the video's conclusion that "justice has been done." Book and video properly belong in the realm of historical fiction. As such they make nice reading and viewing but one should not expect to find a solution to the riddle of King Tutankhamen's death. The murder theory cannot be substantiated using the 1968 skull X-rays, which show only post-mortem artifacts.

I am a ninth grade home schooled student, and I bought this book to further my studies on Ancient Egypt. I loved it! I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves mystery, history, or just a touching story. Do not pass up this one-of-a-kind book! Filled with historical facts, an in-depth outline of Egypt's government system, and the proofs that point to the fact that indeed Tutankhamen was most likely murdered, this book is a guide to life in Ancient Egypt. Thank you to Dr Bob Brier for sharing this knowledge with us!

I would call myself an amateur Egyptologist, reading many books, doing lots of research as well as visiting Egypt. I felt this book was a good introductory into many aspects of ancient Egyptian life and not solely focusing on King Tut. It used a story book system to mask history which made it a bit easier to read. With that said regardless if you don't believe everything in the book it poses some interesting questions.

After the latest scholarly evaluation and investigation on the likely cause of death of Tutankhamen this book is a joke. More like fiction than history. Read it if you must, however there are far better books written by informed an eminent professional Egyptologists.
Bob Brier is an amazing author. Just met him last week at a lecture he was giving at Idaho State University and he is a very interesting person and the evidence he presents is incomparable to other books on the subject that have been written since this book was released . I have watched his documentary many times and his other books are just as good as this one.

This book is very compelling for the theory that Tutankhamen was murdered. The evidence of his case are thoroughly presented in every detail. The suspects are lined up and examined in turn. What would the motives have been? How would it have been committed? These questions are answered in both lights. The ex-rays are examined. Dr. Brier a very good annalist. Top it off with a very good narration of the facts and you have a page turner. The history flows from the pages and it does not take much effort to imagine your self in Tell El Amarna with Akhanaton or in the palace in Thebes at Tutankhamens' death.

All though Dr. Brier is presenting his theory on the murder of Tutanhkamen he does not over look the oppositions side. He simply presents his theory and as he stated in the introduction, "Theory's are meant to be proven or disproven." Bob Brier is an excellent author and he is also a very well known and recognized Egyptologist. Over all a very good book!
