After reading the Forgotten Legion, I flew through this book. Since the majority of backstory and character development took place in the first book, it opened The Silver Eagle up. One of my complaints about the first had to do with the time frame and breadth of backstory that needed to be covered and the skipping of numerous years between chapters. This book has none of those shortcomings and is exciting, dramatic and wonderfully written. The characters are wonderfully concieved and the story stretches across most of the known world in just several hundred pages....if you got any enjoyment out of the Forgotten Legion, you will love The Silver Eagle....

My wife bought me "The Forgotten Legion" a few months ago and I couldn't thank her enough. I couldn't hardly put it down. "The Silver Eagle" was the same. Not one dry or boring page. You're never left thinking "get on with it" as I find myself doing with so many books. There is enough non-fictional info in this to make it educational but the characters that Mr. Kane have created make it very interesting. If you like historical fiction, you will enjoy this series. I can't wait for the 3rd to come out. It's too bad that a 2nd rate movie star or burned out rock star can wright a half effort book about all the drugs they've done or whatever and sell millions of copies, meanwhile great titles like this are mostly left unheard of. Oh well. What can you do. I'm just glad I had the privelage of reading these great stories by Ben Kane.

Eciting read and a real page turner. This was a book I could not put down. Every time I got to the end of a chapter, I found myself making compromises with myself to read just one more. I love Kane's writing style of basing his fictional story on factual researched settings. Even the plot is loosly based on recorded events. This fits right along with the first book, The Forgotten Legion and meets all expectations set up byt the incredible forst book.

Fast moving. Great battle scenes. Kept my attention better than book #1 of the series. Actual Roman history woven in very well.

As a big fan of historical fiction, especially the Roman Empire, I thoroughly enjoyed Ben Kane's story of the "Forgotten Legion:" a blend of history and fiction that breathes life into an all but forgotten era.

This book is the second of a three part trilogy dealing with ancient Rome. It is an extremely entertaining book with a glimpse of what life would have been like back in the 50BC to 45BC time period. Make sure to read the two books in sequence (read the Forgotten Legion first) and save some time each day for this great book. Can't wait until the 3rd and last book comes out in 2011.
Great Story.
