Wisdom's Daughter: A Novel of Solomon and Sheba. This is the tale of Solomon, the King of Israel and Judea, who built the golden temple to Yahweh in Jerusalem. This is the tale of Bilqis, the Queen of Sheba, who rules the spice lands and bows before the will of the Goddess. Once he prayed that he might rule wisely. This is the tale of Solomon's wives, of his concubines. and of his daughter Baalit, more beloved than any son. Here are their voices, their mysteries, and their deepest secrets. Here they sing their songs and weave.

and the king's daughter learns to be a forceful woman in a man's world. Here they sing their songs and weave their tapestries.

A vivid and richly textured rendition of the biblical tale of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. Book and DJ clean/light stain on page edges.

First you have to believe the Jewish King would name His,daughter from the Love of his, life , after the false God's , and then ignore all that legends, tells of Sheba and her son by Solomon..
This continues, the story of Queen Michal making her the puppet master of two reigns ,while continuing her role as victim..

AND forget any hope of worshipping the One True God , He is not portrayed well in either book.

The bible mentions the Queen of Sheba's visit to King Soloman, but gives no credible reason why. Why would a very wealthy queen of a very wealthy country travel a thousand miles of desert to give King Soloman a quiz? Now we have a very logical answer. She needs a successor, a woman who can rule Sheba after the present queen, Bilquis, is no longer able. Her daughter has died in the childbirth of her grand daughter, who also died. The only remaining one in her blood line is a man. But Sheba has been ruled by a woman for a thousand years or more. The monarch must be a queen. The present queen has gone to incredible lengths to become pregnant, but with no success. Now what to do? Consult her "god" for advice. After asking her "god" what to do she has no clear answer, but has the impulse to seek the queen to be by travelling north. Jumping ahead, what she finds in Soloman's palace is clearly the answer to her dreams, a young girl who shows all signs of one who will develop into a wise and able queen. It is Wisdom's Daughter! But how can she get the father who happens to be the king to give up his precious daughter to live in a place where she would be essentially gone from his life permanently? How can she even ask him for such an outrageous favor? This novel is an interesting story that has lots of interesting twists and turns and in the end presents a more or less satisfactory, and plausable future for each of the characters. This book is one of my two favorite novels.

It's amazing how much you can learn by just looking a closely at just a few verses of the Bible with more attention than you usually do when you read it.

I have been reading Wisdom's Daughter and then took a break to watch the movie, "The Bible - Solomon" which led me back to the Bible, I Kings and Song of Songs, to see what we really know about what happened. Some I found and some I think must be creative license, which is understandable because what we know is limited and would make a very short story.

The thing I really like about this book is that it tells the story first from the point of view of one party and then another, bringing some 'creative' insight.

Never again will I read about Solomon without thinking of all those wives and the looks on their faces as he brings in still another wife they will have to share him with.

Interestingly written.

I have read two of India Edghill's other novels: Game of Queens and Delilah. Similar to these books, Wisdom's Daughter is a slow read at first, with the characters being introduced and developed. However, once the plots are at play, it is difficult to put the book down.

Wisdom's Daughter is told through the points of view of various characters: King Solomon, Bilquis, the Queen of Sheba and Baalit, Solomon's daughter are the most defined, with understandable virtues and faults.

The narrative offers new interpretations of well-known Bible stories: Michal's relationship with King David, Abishag's role after her servitude to King David, the sad fates of Absalom, Tamar and Amnon, and of course, the famed visit of the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon.

While the story developed into a gripping tale, I get distracted by some errors a good editor would have caught: typos such as "Hat" for "Ilat" and "bow" for "how," and the wrong use of sayings such as "familiarity breeds content."

India did so much research for this story. It takes you back to biblical times and the reign of King Solomon and Sheba. There has never been such a story about the Queen of Sheba. It shows you that Solomon was not only a very wise king, but also a meancholy king and now we know why he wrote Proverbs and Eclesiastes. He had too many wives! Solomon is probably my favorite old testiment character even over his father David. Such detail in a story! Read it!

The book tell the story of Solomon and Sheba in an original and deeply emotionally engaging way. I loved it from start to finish and am looking forward to reading other books from the author.
Wisdom's Daughter : A Novel of Solomon and Sheba I enjoyed reading this novel which is based on the story of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. Although the Bible does not give a lot of information, this book I believe gives an authentic "flesh and bones" to the story. The writer chooses to use a forward and back approach to telling the story which takes a little while to get used to, but I did enjoy reading the book. The writing is quite pictorial and paints a picture of life in these far off days. I would recommend this book if you have an interest in Bible characters and wish to delve further into the accounts of their lives. Unfortunately I had to send to America for this book, as it was not available from the UK thus adding to the cost of my purchase.
