Book 3 of 4 in the Harper Connelly Series. It is a great murder mystery. I was surprised at the details and graphic descriptions. Charlaine Harris pushes the envelope with this book. Spoiler alert Harper and Tolliver are on another adventure.

Author : Charlaine Harris. Hired to find a boy gene missing in Doraville, North Carolina, Harper Connelly and her brother Tolliver head there, only to discover that the boy was the only one left of several who had disappeared over the previous five years. All of them teenagers. All unlikely runaways. All calling for Harper. Harper soon finds them-eight victims, buried in the half-frozen ground, all come to an unspeakable end. Afterward, what she most wants to do is collect her fee and get out of town ahead of the media storm that's soon to descend.

The Harper Connelly Mysteries is a series of fantasy mystery novels written by Charlaine Harris, and first published in 2005. Harris is known best for penning The Southern Vampire Mysteries (also referred to as the True Blood Series), a series rich in supernatural characters such as vampires, telepaths, werewolves, shapeshifters and fairies; she has also written more traditional (non-paranormal) mysteries.

An Ice Cold Grave was the best book in the series by far. I felt the mystery was way more interesting in this book . The other thing (as I love all 3 books in this series by Charlaine Harris. I felt the mystery was way more interesting in this book and the way it unraveled had a nice flow, compared to the first two novels where it was very all of the sudden. The murders were much more gruesome than previous novels, which was a bit surprising. Harper, the protag, was hit by lightning as a child and suddenly was able to sense the presence of dead bodies and how they died. She and her "not" brother (her mother married his father) travel the country, helping families find closure when their missing dead are found.

Summary: After being struck by lightning as a teenager, Harper Connelly has developed the unique ability to find the dead and see how they died. She and her stepbrother, Tolliver Lang, run a business in which they travel the country assisting law-enforcement personnel and family members of the dead. In her third case, Harper is hired by a woman to find her missing grandson. In fact, numerous teenage boys have disappeared from Doraville, North Carolina.

Charlaine Harris does it again.

Harper soon realizes that she has bitten off more than she can chew when. Charlaine Harris does it again. Ive now finished this 4book series and can highly recommend them. if you liked Sookie youl love this series. I began them After reading the Midnight TX trilogy and was delighted to discover the tiein with the characters of that series as well. Charlaine Harris is the New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse and Midnight, Texas, fantasy/mystery series and the Aurora Teagarden, Harper Connelly, and Lily Bard mystery series.

By this, the third book, I was beginning to get a little bored with Harper. While the mysteries she's dealing with are fascinating (and in this particular book sickening and nightmarish) her own story line isn't progressing in a way that keeps me wanting to keep coming back to see what's going on with her.

I predicted her and Tolliver's relationship almost precisely, and I have to say that I'm happy Ms. Harris didn't throw in too much angst in this regard. I appreciate that they're both acting like adults and making their own decisions, without allowing outside sources to muddy the waters too much.

This particular mystery was utterly heinous. The previous ones were bad, but geez. This one was just awful. At one point I had to close to book and let myself remember that I was just reading a fiction-book, not a newspaper.

There were a few twists and turns that kept you on your toes a bit, so
overall this book was decent, and I do want to read the final one. It wasn't anything super special but it wasn't crap either. 3 stars.

The series she writes are so very different from each, but each series grabs me and I have to keep. The series I started with, Sookie Stackhouse never got old or stale and I loved each book.
Then the Shakespeare series which was different and so was Aurora Teagarden but each mystery was very good. The Harper Connelly series has gone back to the supernatural background but in a whole new way being next to dead bodies or walking over their graves tells her how they died this book could have gone in several directions, I’m glad she took it in the direction she did. Now on to book 4 in the series!!
Abandoned Electrical
Extremely overwritten. It takes from page 82 to 84, just traveling from the hospital to the pharmacy to fill a prescription. Underwhelming. The sex acts are cringe worthy and fit more for the Young Adult fans who seem to expect such superfluous inserts. Sorry 'bout that. The story line is okay. It doesn't make any difference who the bad guy is as all the prime suspects are basically the same cookie cutouts. I won't read anything more from this authoress.

Harper and Tolliver are on another adventure. A small town has six missing boys and they need Harper's gift to find them. Harper finds eight bodies from a serial killer. The book is very graphic, at least for CH, about the young men who were tortured, raped and murdered. And Harper can "feel" it all. It is a very complex mystery and as usual CH touches on the troubles in our society. Xzlda and Manfred are in this book also. I love Manfred. He adds to the book with his unique personality.

Harper finally realizes that she is in love with Tolliver. That love is expressed in this book. I like Harper and Tolliver's relationship. I have read in other reviews that it really upsets some people. But to me, Harper and Tolliver came together in the same house as teenagers when their parents married. They did not grow up together. They are not related. They acted more like the Mom and Dad, caring for the two young girls. They were friends and more like husband and wife. They did not stay together as a family for long. Tolliver went to live with his brother and Harper went into foster care. They both had a terrible traumatic childhood and they really only have each other. I was glad they finally got together as lovers. The sex scenes are pretty graphic for CH, but she writes it well and I enjoyed it.

This is an excellent murder mystery. With Harper's gift giving us a peak into the young men's last minute of life, it adds to the scary factor. This is a dark and frighting book for CH. But it is great. I would recommend it to a friend. Just not a squeamish one. Enjoy!

Harper Connelly was struck by lightning when she was 15, and since then she has a gift, or maybe a curse -- the ability to see a corpse's last few moments before death. Since then she's tried to make a living off this ability, travelling from job to job in the company of her step-brother Tolliver.

In this outing Harper and Tolliver are in Doraville to help a woman try and find her grandson, one of several missing boys. The challenge to the author is to keep the duo in a place and situation even though Harper's gift is emphatically instantaneous, and so far Harris has done a good job. This story is particularly compelling as Harper deals with her first serial killer. Also, the awkwardness that's been growing around her relationship with her stepbrother finally comes to a head. There are some heart-wrenching moments in this book, and I really enjoyed the story and the characters.

In the past I've found Harper to be rather humorless and too earnest to be likable, but it seems that with each book she thaws a little, and I enjoy each one more. Looking forward to the next in this intriguing series.

I very much enjoyed AN ICE COLD GRAVE. The author writes in a very readable way and the story holds your attention, so the time goes very quickly, and I got to the end to fast. I wanted more and hopefully there will be a new one out shortly.

Harper is recovering from the events in A GRAVE SURPRISE and they head to Doraville NC where a boy has been missing for three months. The grandmother has heard of them and raised the money to get them there. But Harper finds not one boy but eight dead boys. There is a serial killer here. This is the first time her path crosses a serial killer and the way the boys were killed is very upsetting to her.

Tolliver is there to care for Harper and take care of the business end of things. He finds there are more than papers to care for, when Harper is attacked outside their motel room.

The story is good and the romance between Tolliver and Harper heats up. Harper finds her unwanted skill is changing and she is having more intuitions about the murders.

I enjoyed it very much and I think you will too.
