I've read this book 6 times in the course of 6 years. I never tire of it. Everytime is like the first time. I laugh.cry.get angry everytime. It's so real and open. Its sad because people's live were and still is the same as freda bootsey doll angel milley and especially Money. It's so real that it's uncomfortable. But it's a very great ready and worthy of 5 stars

Great book, didn't like the ending, well written. Realism black dilemma, the struggle. Great character development, realistic. I don't think I want to read again, tho. I kept waiting for Mildred to make a giant leap in understanding... She didn't get the peace or security that she strove for, until the last page.

Terry McMillan is a great writer and it shows in her first book: Mama. This was a roller coaster of a story; however, it was still a good read!

#Absolutely love this book** I first read this book, when I moved away from my grandparents home, to live with my aunt in Chicago. I was 18 and excited to start a new life. I started reading every book my aunt had lined up trying to better myself....
#After reading so many different "fiction", urban books (or what seemed fiction to me), once I started reading "Mama", I wasn't ready for such an strong impact.. I some what, was afraid of finishing it, because it reminded me so much of my childhood (exactly what I was trying to escape from).. I read it, and cried, got mad, and laughed. Enjoyed this book ..
#Cried several times

Terry McMillan did an extraordinary job... A+.. and Thank you

This book is horrible. There is no climax. The book is just a bunch of details that describe nothing. The ending was horrible. No point at all. Mildred is just a horrible mother and a drunk. I have seen mothers who struggle before and what she was doing was not it. DO NOT buy this book its HORRIBLE.
Great book. I loved the main character even though I wished it had ended differently.
