Playing with the Moon is Eliza Graham's debut novel. Though I did not intend to, I read Playing With the Moon in one sitting. I'll read just one more chapter, I kept telling myself, but I was hooked and kept turning the pages. I had to find out how the two stories tied together, and tie together they did. Ms. Graham did a superb job of bringing together the past and the present. This is an impressive debut by an author whose next book I eagerly await.

Playing with the Moon is Eliza Graham's first novel and it's very good. The book deals with memory, the power of memory, with loss, grief and bereavement. It’s also about war, the legacy of war, and of how to make sense of our lives

Playing with the Moon is Eliza Graham's first novel and it's very good. It begins when Minna and Tom, who are staying at a cottage in an isolated village on the Dorset coast east of Lulworth, discover a human skeleton on the beach and dog tags inscribed LEWIS J CAMPBELL and a number. It’s also about war, the legacy of war, and of how to make sense of our lives. I found it a compelling book to read. Although it deals with tragic events it does so gently and with compassion. It seems to me that Playing With the Moon captures what life was like during the 1940s.

Felix’s final shocking confession allows her to come to terms with an event that has cast a shadow over her life, and helps Minna to begin to accept her own loss.

Shattered by a recent bereavement, Minna and husband Tom retreat to an isolated village on the Dorset coast, seeking the solitude that will allow them to cope with their loss and rebuild their foundering marriage. Walking on the beach one day, they unearth a human skeleton. It is a discovery which will plunge Minna into a mystery which will consume her for months to come. The remains are soon identified as those of Private Lew Campbell, a black American GI who, it seems, drowned during a wartime exercise in the area half a century before. Growing increasingly preoccupied with the dead soldier’s fate, Minna befriends a melancholy elderly woman, Felix, who lived in the village during the war. As Minna coaxes Felix’s story from her, it becomes clear that the old woman knows more about the dead GI than she initially let on.

Two women who had been strangers, one young and one "up in years" meet in a small English village along the seacoast. Together they unravel secrets from the past, and find solace in each other. It's a very good read, traveling in time from chapter to chapter, but easy to follow if you are paying attention. It resembles Graham's book The One I Was in structure, but characters, setting and problems are completely different.

Loved the story and how the characters developed as the story progressed. Unfortunately I read it in spurts which I think lessened full enjoyment of the characters. It was easy reading if you don't mind the going back in time. Not difficult to relate to any of the characters; I could imagine myself as any of the characters.

Felix and Minna, two women visited by tragedy. Fate brings them together and the healing begins. I read two other books by Eliza Graham first and this one did not grab me as much as the others. But I did enjoy it and am looking forward to reading the fourth one.

As the story unravels nothing is given away to the secrets of Felix or the cause of the heartache of Minna. At just the right time in the story these things are revealed. A story of secrets, love and redemption. A must read!

Great read and wonderful characters. The two women find a lot to share just like old friends and are healed by each other. A heartwarming book of family and love.

Interesting plot and one I have not read before. I also purchased the audible to go with the book and I am enjoying the immersion reading experience.
