Brothers Esau and Jacob witness their mother perish, Esau in horror, Jacob with joy.

Frank Marsh’s Rebekka’s Children chronicles the haunted past of two boys born in the turbulent 1960s. Marsh’s expertly weaves a tale that keeps the reader guessing until its cataclysmic conclusion. In a middle Tennessee hippie commune, two wayward young women meet and their lives are forever changed. Martha gives birth to twin boys, Esau and Jacob, and abandons them to Rebekka. Exploring the delicate balance of parent and child relationships while blending the themes of how fate can take a life through heaven or hell is brilliantly portrayed. Marsh’s complex characters and haunting story will stay with you long after the final page is turned.

According to Maxim, Rebecca pursued Frank sexually, and Frank had to call on Maxim to make her stop. It seems like Frank knows that Maxim killed Rebecca and actively participates in the cover-up. According to Favell, Frank pursued Rebecca, and turned on her when she wouldn't reciprocate. In this way, Frank is a great example of how we never really know what to think about these characters because their past is so mysterious (and all we know is what Mrs. de Winter tells us). Who do you believe? It seems like Frank knows that Maxim killed Rebecca and actively participates in the cover-up

The Rebecca quotes below are all either spoken by Frank Crawley or refer to Frank Crawley. There would be the interest of seeing to their rooms, having flowers and books put, arranging the food. Surely we would have children. We would have children. Related Characters: The narrator (speaker), Maximilian de Winter, Frank Crawley.

Brothers Esau and Jacob witness their mother perish, Esau in horror, Jacob with joy. After following their separate paths of destiny, they meet again by chance thirty-five years later. The attack of a young college student is linked to a homeless drifter who goes by the name of Esau. Then, he mysteriously dies in the court house before the trial. After the incident, two homicide cases follow. Are they related? Who is the murderer? Is Esau guilty? The case of Esau and the two brutal murders become the last crusade of justice for the twice divorced assistant attorney general Grove McVey as he is one step from retiring. A story shrouded in suspense and mystery, Rebekka's Children is the narration of long buried and forgotten misdeeds that are resuscitated to haunt a tragic and troubled family.

I finished Rebekka's Children but I was a dissatisfied reader after I did. The writing is mediocre and at times shallow. It's a shame too, because the plot of the story was very intriguing with many twists and turns that kept me reading. A mysterious and beautiful woman, young twins perhaps entangled in her death, someone actively killing witnesses and harassing those who are getting too close to the truth and a mediocre lawyer thrust into a simple assault case that isn't so simple-the makings of a great story. Frank Marsh's writing isn't all bad, actually it quite good for large chunks of the book, but he makes a mistake in trying to include an underdeveloped romance in the story. The details and character development of this hot on the trail whodunit could have slowed down a bit and been fleshed out more to make the reading more tantalizing and rich. Mysteries can be well anchored in a rich story of daily life, but the rabbit-hole of a romance, and the added weight of it's morality tale about racism in Rebekka's Children was actually distracting.

A mystery deepened by details binding the people to the place of the Southern Appalachians in northeastern Tennessee. Frank Marsh weaves a rich tapestry from threads of bigotry, social justice and injustice, political ambition, and secret relationships against a warp of extraordinary characters we seek from Southern authors. The plot twists and turns to the last page. Rebekka's Children is an exceptionally satisfying and intelligent read.

This was an awesome book! The author weaves a tapestry of characters among the beautiful hills of East Tennessee. The ending was such a surprise...I had goosebumps! I read many mysteries and this rates as one of the best. I didn't want it to be over.

This book was a terrific mystery novel that will introduce readers to the unique physical and cultural geography of East Tennessee. The subtexts of racism, genetics and the ability of a late life romance to transform a lifetime of prejudice make this a very unique read.

Rebekka's Children is an engaging, artfully crafted story, with one plot twist in particular that blew my socks off. Mr Marsh has the ability to spin a tale that is at once humorous and deadly serious which I found compelling.

I only wish Frank Marsh had another novel like this to feast on. It has been a very long time since I purposefully sacrificed a night's sleep to read a book. I just couldn't put it down. I loved it.
