Jon Stephen Cleary (22 November 1917 – 19 July 2010) was an Australian writer and novelist.

Jon Stephen Cleary (22 November 1917 – 19 July 2010) was an Australian writer and novelist. He wrote numerous books, including The Sundowners (1951), a portrait of a rural family in the 1920s as they move from one job to the next, and The High Commissioner (1966), the first of a long series of popular detective fiction works featuring Sydney Police Inspector Scobie Malone. A number of Cleary's works have been the subject of film and television adaptations.

Ransom was a 1973 novel by Australian author Jon Cleary, the third to feature his detective hero Scobie Malone. Cleary also wrote The Sundowners and The High Commissioner. The novel was published by Fontana Press on November 3, 1975. Scobie is on honeymoon in New York with his new wife Lisa, who he first met during the time of The High Commissioner. Lisa goes to visit the dentist at the same time as Sylvia Forte, wife of the mayor of New York, Michael Forte.

This is a crime novel from the author of "The Sundowners" and "The High Commissioner". It was Lisa Malone's misfortune to share a lift with the wife of the Mayor, for whom a political kidnapping had been arranged. For Malone, private detective, it was a new experience to be the victim.

I ordered Ransom even though I had ordered it from ILL at the library where I work. I got that quicker than I did the book, so had already read it. I appreciated the fact that the company atoned for the fact that there was a computer problem and I received a refund on the shipping. I would deal with them again.
