Any other recommendations on hotels vs self catering would be appreciated  . Some good hotels and b&b s if you want to do that, and quite a good selection of places to eat out. Close to home they may be (about 28 miles from Cornwall in fact), but I had heard tales of exotic scenery and a Gulf Stream-enhanced climate. A taste of the exotic: Despite their proximity to UK shores, the Scilly Isles feel a world away from Britain.
