Lemn Sissay MBE (born 21 May 1967) is an English author and broadcaster.

Lemn Sissay MBE (born 21 May 1967) is an English author and broadcaster. Sissay was the official poet of the 2012 London Olympics, has been chancellor of the University of Manchester since 2015, and joined the Foundling Museum's board of trustees two years later, having previously been appointed one of the museum's fellows. He was awarded the 2019 PEN Pinter Prize. He has written a number of books and plays.

Lemn Sissay has written publications with Canongate, Oberon, Bloomsbury Bloodaxe and Faber and Faber. 2008, Listener, Canongate Books. 2008, Hidden Gems (Sissay contributed "Something Dark"), Oberon Books. And many other writings: plays poetry, articles introductions to publication like The Moth collection to articles for The Guardian. Lemn Sissay reads his work around the world and is featured on many albums, most notably Leftism by Leftfield. Of Ethiopian decent, Lemn Sissay was brought up by white parents in the North West of England. The Independent on Sunday says of his work: 'His poems are the songs of the street, declamatory, imaginative, hard-hitting. Critical perspective. It is this painfully personal experience of growing up without knowing his parents that marks much of Sissay’s poetry to date.
