Another great book book by Lisa Jackson, & Novel book including Montoya & Bentz whom I thoroughly enjoy reading about. They are intense about their jobs & family probably. They are intense about their jobs & family probably not, that would be no fun! . But the book was ok as a stand alone and only a couple of things mentioned were a little unclear because they had happened in an earlier book. But it does not interfere with the plot. Bentz said as Montoya crouched beside the body and stared down at the cold form of Sister Asteria urrounding them in the graveyard. Funny, Montoya snorted. So Bentz was half serious. No, Bentz, he said as he straightened, relieved. The first time I met her was during the interviews. God, had that been only a couple of nights ago? It seemed like a lifetime.

Someone is strangling novice nuns in Jackson's terrifying if overwrought seventh Bentz and Montoya novel (after Malice). When NOPD homicide detectives Reuben Montoya and Rick Bentz arrive at the first crime scene, the chapel of St. Marguerite's Convent, Montoya recognizes the murder victim, Sister Camille, as his old high school girlfriend, Cammie Renard. In another coincidence, the novice sister who discovered Camille's body, Lucia Costa, once dated Montoya's brother.

When the body of young novice Sister Camille is found garroted in St. Marguerite's cathedral, Detectives Bentz and Montoya are called in. For Montoya, the brutal crime scene is disturbingly familiar -- his aunt, also a nun, was murdered. And the connection doesn't end there. Montoya knew both the victim and the prime suspect -- Father Frank O'Toole, with whom the victim was rumored to be having an affair.

The deeper the investigation goes, the eerier it gets. More nuns are being brutally slaughtered by someone who seems to know their darkest secrets. Though Bentz is sure Father Frank is their man, there are other suspects, including a killer thought to be dead. Has the monstrous Father John returned? Or is the truth even more twisted and terrifying?

Devious is Right!!! A real page turner! I stayed up way too late for several nights to finish reading this book. It isn't door people who are squeamish or who don't believe in evil and Satan. I liked this book very much, but at the same time can say that it isn't for everyone.
Crazy
I have always loved Lisa Jackson's books and this one was no let-down. Lots of suspense, and the romance between Valerie and Slade was so sweet. Jackson is so talented at grasping the readers attention and holding it until the very end. She always leaves me guessing who done it; so you do not want to put the book down until the killer is revealed. At the end of this novel, there is another killer still out there somewhere, and I can not wait to read the next Bentz and Montoya novel to see who Father John really is. Way to go LISA!!! If you love suspense, romance and a really good who-done-it novel, then you must purchase and jump right into this story !!!

I enjoy books that keep your attention from the beginning and you can not figure out the ending till the very end. What a twist of events as the story unfolds. I will definitely read more books by this author.

I couldn’t put it down, felt like I should have known something more at the end. Tense, tightly written, the careful twists right to the last page. Everything you want in a thriller

I have been rereading the Bentz/Montoya books before I read their newest book. This one is as good as the first six. Reading the series is like a family reunion in a way because all the characters are woven together. And some of the old adversaries from previous books make appearances! Can't wait to start the next book!

Great book. I missed when purchased that this was a #7 in a series. I'm now going back and reading the beginning of the series. I'm one who needs to read a series in order. But the book was ok as a stand alone and only a couple of things mentioned were a little unclear because they had happened in an earlier book. But it does not interfere with the plot. I really enjoy Lisa Jackson books no matter which one it is.

Another great book book by Lisa Jackson, & Novel book including Montoya & Bentz whom I thoroughly enjoy reading about. They are intense about their jobs & family. I hope in the upcoming novel they finally get closure.. probably not, that would be no fun! We'll see ;-)
Difficult to read on my Kindle. Sometimes there was no break from one chapter to another. I would be reading the narration of one person and then on the next line it would be someone else narrating in an entirely different setting. I had to keep going back to realize what was going on.
Once I got used to it the reading became easier. I don't know if the book is this way, but the Kindle was.

Other than that it was a very good book.
