It's nice that such a book specifically for women was written and I suspect that if you follow it's directions to a tee you will definitely get a more muscular body.

A really good book, I agree with the positive reviews here. I got the Kindle edition which was a great value, but make sure you're using a Kindle Fire or iPad type device because you're going to want it to view the photos of the exercises.

The biggest downside to the Kindle edition is the lack of a maneuverability between pages or chapters . For example it's difficult to get to the routine section at the end and then find the detailed examples, photos, etc of the exercise back in chapter #x, especially since you can only jump by location and not page number (which is what is cited by the authors for the routines) This is a huge drawback for the kindle version even if you have a fire or ipad.. I'm considering getting a hard copy because now having read the book I think it's worth it, but more so I can actually flip through the pages.

Edit: I just got the hard copy of this book, (so now I have two copies). Same great material with the ability to flip pages helps a lot to employ the routines. Sometimes a physical book is better (although I like to read kindle books a lot).

I've been working out for about 2 years. I was doing the same routine in the gym week in and week out.

I only learned by watching others and asking other people that work out questions. I've researched body building sites, but the info was limited.

As soon as I started following the advice in this book i saw immediate, immediate progress. It not only instructs you very clearly on a variety of proper exercises and form, but also gives key information on diet and believe it or not the mental aspect of working out.

I have seen and read other books on similar subject matter, but none broke it down quite as simply and honestly, and Completely as this one.

It was introduced to me by a recent friend who is a personal trainer, who said that this book is comparable (and even beyond that) to the information provided in his certification for training. But obviously not as technical.

The information in this book is honest, accurate, and effective.

The bottom line is that the book lays out the basics for men who are interested in improving the shape of their body. Most of the book is dedicated to showing and telling you what each exercise is and how to do it properly. If you are already in shape, have a good program that you are happy with then you don't need this book. For me, it has been great. The explanation of techniques and basic nutritional advice are just what I needed. If you are looking for a place to get started this book is definitely a good place to start

-Takes a lot of lines in topics similar books (The New Rules of Lifting: Six Basic Moves for Maximum Muscle) don't deal with (creams, crazy Atkins-like diets, steroids, supplements like creatine, picolinate and glutamine, motivation and the power of visualization, relaxation techniques, workout scheduling, muscle soreness, sleep, body hair and working out for older men and youngsters),
-Explains the details of form of every exercise to avoid injuries and rip the benefits,
-Has double routines, for home and gym,
-Has good nutritional advice,
-Doesn't requires much physical condition to get started,
-You better take your time to read it and underline the important parts.

All of my life I feared lifting dumbbells. I had heard terrible accounts of misshapes. A lady told me that following well defined rules of use makes exercise with weight safe. She gave me the title of this book. Immediately I liked it because it tells you every time what to do and what not to do and why. I am 79 years old using dumbbells every morning on a weight bench. I am still in relative good shape thanks to this book. Contrary to the title I do not try to sculpt my body, just stay in shape. It works.

I have been out of the gym about 10 years now and decided to go back and "try" to get back to where I once was. I saw this book and thought that maybe in the time I have been away from the gym maybe the workouts had changed some, so I decided to buy it. I read it from cover to cover and was shocked at how many things I was doing wrong when I was seriously working out years ago. I was getting good results, but I wonder if I had known what I know now, how much better shape could I have gotten in? The book is very informative and covers about any topic that might arise. I would rate this book as high as any workout book out there, the DVD that comes with it is very helpful as well if you are unfamiliar with some of the exercises. I hope this gets me back to the shape or even better than I was in years ago. From first impressions it certainly will if I follow their teachings.

If you're searching for books like this, chances are you are 'looking into' getting started with weights or getting back into them. One thing you should know is that no one book on the market is the be all/end all for weight training. Two broad categories of books in this field are those that present you with routines and those that focus on exercise mechanics. I like this book because it gives you enough of both to get started - which was the biggest hurdle for me. You get the exercises (w/ photos) and the proposed progression routine to follow. For all its shortcomings - I completely ignored everything it had to say about nutrition and supplements and it has given me great results - if you can follow the break-in routine laid out here for 12 weeks, your body will be prepared to move into whatever direction you want to go. That will probably mean buying more books, but at least you will have a feel for what you are looking for. If you can't get through the break in routine you prolly won't be looking for anymore books anyway - until you feel inspired again. If you have the extra cash, you should prolly pick up the "Strength Training Anatomy" book to get more specific information on the indivdual exercises.
