I struggled with panic attacks for 5 years. I was prescribed medications and went to therapy, but still no success. I read this book and have not had 1 panic attack since. There is a balanced content that includes complete current information about the physiology of anxiety and panic attacks, followed by the psychology that often accompanies such attacks, and then step-by-step exercises you can do to help alleviate your symptoms. Armed with both the knowledge of what's happening and the skills to help counter anxiety symptoms, I have been able to make significant strides in staying calm while normally stress-provoking events occur.

I wish this book had a title that better reflected its broader scope. By no means only about panic attacks or panic disorder, it's a terrific book about managing anxiety in general. The author was ahead of his time, writing about the inner observer (worried, critical, hopeless or independent). Without ever using the word "mindfulness," he makes that concept highly accessible. In more than 20 years as a therapist, I've never found a better book on anxiety.

Life saving book! Recommend to anyone I encounter struggling with anxiety. When I first started confronting my anxiety I would highlight helpful ideas as I read and then reread them anytime I was losing control of my anxiety. I am in a totally different place now and have this book and a short course of therapy sessions to thank for it!

I've only had this book four weeks and it has made all the difference in me trying to regain and live a good quality of daily life. I've been afflicted with this disorder for at least 25 years.

The book started out interesting, but by the time I was 1/3rd of the way through, I was convinced I was agoraphobic. And when shortly after it started talking about 12-step programs, I started getting bored. You can only detail the 12 steps so much before you start to sound repetitious. I really struggled to finish this book, and as of now, its in my storage until I get around to donating it to the library. Glad I bought this book used.

I have had panic attacks many many times and have seen medical professionals for it. This book helped me get through many anxiety attacks when I recalled things that I read. I have reduced my tranquilizers considerably as I now have reinforced things that I have learned over the years when combined with this book. When I feel I need a mental booster, I read a part of a chapter or so and it helps me.

I am very pleased. I ordered a used book but it arrived in excellent like-new condition. My book arrived so fast I felt like I had just ordered it and suddenly it was delivered to my door.

This book was recommended to me and I am so happy that I got it. This book is actually a pleasure to read because it is quite informative without any of the boring factor. I had read about 100 pages before realizing just how many pages I had read - reader friendly.

It is full of useful information and pertinent data to anyone suffering with Panic Disorder or knows someone who is.

The contents of this book are divided into 4 parts:

1.- Identifying the Problem
2.- The Nature of Anxiety Attacks
3.- Don't Panic Live: Your Moment-by-Moment Strategies
4.- Support When You Need It

I would definitely recommend this book because I feel it is a very helpful asset in one's tool box when dealing/coping with Panic. It not only helps you understand but also helps you!

FOUND THIS BOOK TO BE USEFUL AND INFORMATIVE BUT STILL BELIEVE THAT MEDICATION WILL BE NECESSARY FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE - IF ONLY AS A STABILIZER. ALOS, I REGRET TO SAY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN IN MORE CONDENSED FORM. THE PROBLEM WITH THE LENTHIER BOOKS IS THAT SOMEONE IN NEED OF HELP WILL HAVE TO WADE THROUGH ABOUT 400 PAGES. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO SEVERAL OTHER BOOKS ON THE MARKET.
