My Mom bought a copy of the original hardcover in the late 1970's and kept it on the coffee table. I was about 12 or 13 years old. My Mom was always very matter of fact and liberal about the human body and sexuality and this book reflected that. To this day I never seen another book that comes close to truly showing people the beauty of our bodies and sexuality.

My friends were equally interested in the book. A friend of mine recently told me she used to come over to my home and stare for hours at the elderly couple copulating. She couldn't believe that old people did that.

This book is still quite lovely. The photographs are stunning, beautifully artistic. My favorite is the two page spread of the man masturbating and the semen spattering onto the page like a grainy black and white constellation. I've considered pulling that spread and framing it. The caption on that page is hilarious as it's very matter of fact and explains about ejaculation. The photograph is so obviously a piece of art and the little square of text is trying to hold it down. Yet visually it refuses to be anchored.
I bought the 1979 edition primarily for the contributions by the artists Tee Corinne and Honey Lee Cottrell as it was published at the start of their careers and contained in a major mainstream publication. Interesting antidote, the editor declined to include a particular artwork by Ms. Corinne that subsequently became iconic in magazines, books & posters and is still in print.

I was very impressed that the majority of the book was an interesting to read and very well illustrated. I understand that this was one of the first illustrated guides that used explicit photographs to educate professionals and the public about human sexuality.

It would be interesting to get this 1982 edition to see what the additional 30 pages contributed.
I read this book when it came out. It is almost 30 years ago?? Wow. This book is extremely well balanced and advanced. It is such a well written book (at least that was when I read it then). I just found this in Amazon and wanted to tell how useful the book was. I recommend everyone to understand more about sex and sexuality.
