Ghosts of Madison, Wisconsin book. I liked it (it was fun to read about some of the "ghosts" on Uw-Madison's campus), but found a couple mistakes in the writing (saying Frank Lloyd Wright had 3 wives, then a paragraph later, talking about his 4th wife). Apr 10, 2013 Chris rated it did not like it.

If you're in that mood, and want to read a Wisconsin ghost story or two, this is a good choice. People don't realize that Wisconsin is (allegedly, for you non-believers) one of the most haunted states. Tons of paranormal activity reported in Madison,WI. No surprise really, with all the old farms and farmhouses, ancient woods and lakes, and all its great history. Have fun with it.

Ghosts Of Madison, Wisconsin is full of true ghost stories and eye-witness accounts of supernatural occurrences. Ghosts Of Madison, Wisconsin showcases an aspect of the Badger State that will utterly fascinate Wisconsin history buffs and students of the paranormal.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin and never heard of any ghosts in Madison and around that area so I was so surprised while I was reading this book.I was reading about Cave Of the Mounds a place I went to see as a child as a field trip when I was in grade school. I remember just how beautiful it was and something about a pass in where we were walking felt weird. That's all I remember about the visit.

I found it to be factual and quite impressive. This book is both thought provoking and a great conversation piece.

Having grown up in south central Wisconsin and lived in Madison over 25 years, I thought I knew my adopted home town pretty well. But reading through Sherry Straub's new book about Madison area hauntings has put a whole new perspective on the beautiful "City on an Isthmus".

Madison is probably better known as the home of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the main campus of the larger UW system. It is also the state capital, boasting a beautiful capitol building located at the heart of the city, overlooking Lakes Mendota and Monona. The sun shines brightly on weekend Farmer's markets, vast summer art festivals and football Saturdays when State Street is aglow in red-clad Badger boosters.

But what about the darker side of this town, the haunted past of Madison? When I lived in Madison, I had some strange experiences of my own but never really heard much about other possible oddities. Is it that Madison wants to keep its dark secrets hidden close to the vest?

Perhaps, but Sherry Straub helps bring many of those stories to light. Her book is a wonderful tourist's guide to haunted Madison and its neighboring towns. From the strange footsteps of "Ollie", the resident ghost at the Ohio Tavern, to the voices heard at Elsing's 2nd Hand Shop in Stoughton, this is a delightful handbook to take the ghost-seeking tourist from stop to stop. Ever wonder if any university building is haunted? Do ghosts eat ice cream? Who is buried on Bascom Hill? These questions are all answered in Ghosts of Madison, Wisconsin.
