Construction of the Alaska Highway was certainly an unbelievably challenging undertaking in civil engineering, carried out at a breakneck pace by today's standards. The suspension bridge over the Peace River was built in 18 weeks. I bought this book after watching the History Channel documentary on the construction of the Alaska Highway (for about the fourth time). The book is an excellent story that contains a lot more facts than what can be covered in a TV Documentary. It also covers a lot of the human element.
