Argentina: A City and a Nation. This is a classic study of the world's eighth largest nation in area, home of the Evita Perón, Jorge Luis Borges, and Diego Maradona, to name a few famous citizens. I first read it for a college course in Latin American history back in 1964, but having forgotten it, and having visited Argentina a top economic history. If you wanted a good example of what "economic history" means, you couldn't do better than to turn to ARGENTINA. If you need background information on Argentina specifically, ditto.

Argentina: A City and a . .has been added to your Cart. This book helped me learn a great deal and I find Argentina quite fascinating. At the start, this region was an afterthought for Spain and Portugal. Lima was the center for the South American government. Buenos Aires was colonized twice, the first was a failure. The first 200 years or so seemed to have Buenos Aires and Argentina as a pure asterisk for Spain. After the revolution led by San Martin, there was a period of Buenos Aires vs the rest of the country. Finally around 1852, the country started to gel and by 1900 was one of the wealthiest countries.
