The Book of Concord or Concordia is a compilation of the major theological documents of early Lutheranism. The book was first published on June 25, 1580, fifty years after the presentation of the Augsburg Confession to Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Augsburg. The Book of Concord compiles the important Lutheran confessional documents, that is, documents that summarize and interpret the teachings of the Bible.

The Book of Concord book. That's right folks, I'm reading most of the Book of Concord for my Lutheran Confessions class. A new translation with expanded introductions and annotations. yippee! Despite the fact that it's so old, it is incredibly radical theology and relevant for today. Recommends it for: Christians. Shelves: christian-theology.

Complementary Books 1) Luther's Small Catechism with Explanation (St . Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 1991). F. Samuel Janzow Robert Kolb and Timothy J. Wengert. 3) Robert Kolb, The Christian Faith: A Lutheran Exposition (St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 1993).

Lutheran scholars Kolb and Arand offer an introduction to two central themes of the German reformer's theology. They first examine Luther's view on the believer's response to God and the world--seen as 'passive' and 'active' righteousness; and then explore his perspective on God's relationship to humanity through Scripture--in creation and in redemption. 240 pages, softcover from Baker. Timothy J. Wengert, Ministerium of Pennsylvania Professor of the History of Christianity, The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.

New scholarship, changes in the English language, new knowledge of the history and theology of these documents, and a more technology-driven populace dictated this new translation on CD-ROM.

this , unfortunately is a very literal translation.
and it is germanglish as a result. stilted translation.
why we can translate the bible as a dynamic equivalent and not the book of concord baffles me. it will forever leave the book of concord to be read only by theology wonks and wonkettes. and even they wont catch the gist with this sort of translation.

the footnotes are extremely helpful, and the text IS faithfully rendered even though too literally to sound like real english.

This is the CD-ROM version of the Book of Concord. Fortress Press uses Logos Research System, Inc.'s "The Libronix Digital Library System" for this. I installed the software but it will not allow me access to the book. I have entered the "serial number" on the package, but it will not accept it. This is NOT the first time I have had problems with "The Libronix Digital Library System." I have tried using Logos Research Systems, Inc. technical assistance, but they could not resolve my issues.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS OR ANY DIGITAL BOOKS FROM LOGOS RESEARCH SYSTEMS, INC., OR THE LIBRONIX DIGITAL LIBRARY SYSTEM.

I'm a seminary student and had hoped to use this as a research tool for a class. I have a PC-emulation program on my macbook and so went about installing this product. Unfortunately I have not been able to get it to work, so I'll end up just installing it on my desktop PC at home (which is of no use to me when I'm on-campus). It's great that they've made an electronic version; now I hope they put together a version that will work in Accordance or on Mac.

The CD was sent promptly by Amazon, but came with no serial number. They quickly sent a replacement, which also came with no serial number. I'm contacting Logos to see if they'll provide the serial number (already contacted them once.) So at this point, "buyer beware."
