In these vertebrates groups, the hippocampal pallium homologue is involved in the use of map-like, relational representations of the objective space that provide stable allocentric frames of reference, thus allowing flexible navigation. A Rare Presentation of Central Nervous System Melioidosis.

Hans J. This section surveys the structure and function of the central nervous system in the various groups of vertebrates

Hans J. The early students of the structure of the vertebrate CNS (see Conn 1948; Clarke and O’Malley 1968; Spillane 1981; Shepherd 1991) had to rely on the quick analysis of either fresh or, at best, partially preserved biological material. Thus, Reil’s introduction of alcohol for fixation in 1809 was an important step. This section surveys the structure and function of the central nervous system in the various groups of vertebrates.

This comprehensive reference is clearly destined to become the definitive anatomical basis for all molecular neuroscience research. The three volumes provide a complete overview and comparison of the structural organisation of all vertebrate groups, ranging from amphioxus and lamprey through fishes, amphibians and birds to mammals. This thus allows a systematic treatment of the concepts and methodology found in modern comparative neuroscience. Neuroscientists, comparative morphologists and anatomists will all benefit from:* 1,200 detailed and standardised neuroanatomical drawings * the illustrations were painstakingly hand-drawn by a team of graphic designers, specially commissioned by the authors, over a period of 25 years * functional correlations of vertebrate brains * concepts and methodology of modern comparative neuroscience * five full-colour posters giving an overview of the central nervous system of the vertebrates, ideal for mounting and displayThis monumental work is, and will remain, unique; the only source of such brilliant illustrations at both the macroscopic and microscopic levels.

Beautiful illustrations.
axolotl, amphioxus, coelacanth all the way up to man in a coherent presentation.

This is an outstanding attempt to summarize the evolution of the vertebrate nervous system. There is no serious competition for this 3 volume series. The illustrations are superb and the text is very well referenced. It is expensive, but it is a classic.

This is a fantastic 3-volume set. Importantly, it has been reissued in soft cover by the publisher! see: http://www.springer.com/biomed/neuroscience/book/978-3-540-56013-5.

It will be the best $100 you will ever spend. Hurry - its a limited edition.
