This book you are holding in your hands is a piece of magic The thing I’m going to warn you about is that these fairy tales aren’t anything like real life

This book you are holding in your hands is a piece of magic. It is lots of little pieces of magic, in fact, collected by the brothers Grimm nearly two hundred years ago. They travelled around Germany, asking people to tell them their town or family’s favourite fairy tale. These were the stories grannies had been telling grandchildren, sisters had told their brothers, and mums and dads had been telling their kids for hundreds of years. The thing I’m going to warn you about is that these fairy tales aren’t anything like real life. I’m telling you this just in case you are like a teacher I once had. He told me off about a story I had written that had too many unrealistic things in it. I don’t think you are like that.

Grimm's Fairy Tales have brought magic and delight to millions, throughout the generations all over the world. They collected the oral folktales of their time. I love that this book features all the tales in their entirety. There is no question that despite their circumstances the Grimm brothers were at the top of their game when it came to delivering ominous, childlike and broody tales that still keep us hiding under our blankets. What made this book (i bought the kindle version) stand out from the rest in my eyes was the opportunity to learn more about the brothers themselves which I did but I would only come upon a few small paragraphs before I'd come upon another tale.
