Anybody who does not own a copy of Zumdahl's "Chemistry" is missing out. This textbook on Inorganic Chemistry is a masterpiece, with excellent explanations on many concepts and supported by colourful illustrations. It is a must for anyone who is serious about Chemistry (from Junior to University levels). I have to give this book 10 out of 5 and I thoroughly recommend it. Cheers from Australia - Henry
Good chemistry book! We had this textbook for our AP Chemistry class (before the test being recently changed), and my teacher has been using this book for several year as well. It covers a variety of topics, and anytime I did not understand something, I had to refer to the textbook, which did a good job using illustrations and descriptions and examples. It covered all the topics I needed to know and in good detail and I did fantastically well in my class and on the AP Exam using this book. Zumdahl and Zumdahl do a great job
It's an organic chemistry book. If you're buying this, your prof probably requires it anyways, so there can't be too much debate here. Explains concepts fairly well, I found that I was able to think about O-chem more process wise than flat memorizing, which I heavily prefer. This probably won't be your favorite thing in the universe, but if you're going to have to learn the subject matter, might as well learn it right. LEARN THE LOGIC, DON'T JUST MEMORIZE
I bought this for a college class that I was taking. The binder ready version is convenient because you can carry around just the chapters that you are studying at the moment. I personally prefer studying actual text, as opposed to on a digital device, because that means I don't have to take out my ipad if I am studying on the train. It's also less tempting because you don't have the internet at your fingertips when you study. Unfortunately it's expensive and I have no other orgo textbooks to compare it to. Buy I wish you all the best on organic chemistry, it requires a lot of practice and man hours, but it is doable if you put in the effort.
I found the McMurry Organic Chemistry to be better organized and the material better presented.
This book has some good explanations, but kind of jumps around. If I hadn't already read some of the sections in the McMurry book I'd have had trouble learning from this book. But buying a used copy for a low price and using it as a supplement is worthwhile.
This book has been a pleasure for me. It has the basics, plus lots of sidebar and highlight material when you get bored with the basics. The problems follow from and reinforce the points made in each chapter.

The explanations are crystal clear. For example, moles are introduced by the analogy of buying jelly beans.... you have a pound of jelly beans and, knowing the weight of the average bean, you know the number of beans. Don't think it can get much clearer.

While I certainly agree with those who those who dislike overpriced textbooks, remember that God gave us amazon.com to deal with this problem. I bought the current edition for 1/3 the list price.

This textbook on Inorganic Chemistry is a masterpiece, with excellent explanations on many concepts and supported by colourful illustrations.
Good and reliable. Zumdahl is used from AP to University levels - you can be self taught if you take the time to synthesize the material.
