A polymath and a provocateur, Tomi Ungerer (1931 - 2019) was perhaps best described by his motto: ‘Expect the Unexpected’  . In the book, some of the words stand alone, some work in couples such as: eat (essen), taste (schmecken) touch (berühren), feel (fühlen) slurp (schlürfen), drink (trinken) Tomi hadn’t made a book for this age group since the 1960’s when he did Where’s My Shoe, Snail Where are You and Ask me a Question. I had this book when I was about 4 years old. The spooky and vivid illustrations stuck with me well after I lost this book.
I just purchased this again and love it more than I did when I was a kid.

The description indicated that the book was in good condition. But the binder was worn and ripped. A complete description would have been more helpful

Dark, moving story. Very typical dark, intricate, illustrations. Incredibly well-done, and perfect for second language learners, and group story telling. My class and myself very much enjoyed both the story and the pictures. Perfect for allowing younger children to point out all the activities in the drawings. An appropriate theme for Christmas/Channukah winter time frame. Don't forget, it is a tad macabre by today's standards.
