Nathan Peake isn't Jack Aubrey, nor Hornblower, but, he's every bit as good. It took me reading the previous two novels before I truly warmed to his rather standoffish personality on one hand and intense character on the other.
Seth Hunter is a gifted story teller. I only wish he hadn't stopped writing in this series after the sixth. The genre sorely needs good writers and good characters.
I do suggest starting with the first two books in the series, "The Time Of Terror" and "The Tide Of War".
